I run my own PWA on a 2012 Samsung Galaxy S3 and the only performance problems I have, are due to bad decisions as a developer (e.g. loading all elements of a list isn't such a great idea when the list grows over time and you use the a

I think it is good when new grads have the knowledge to see that those things don't look right and can articulate how and why it should look different. After all, when you come across a problem, that does not contain just 100 chars, it

The look depends on how much effort the developer invests. If you take Bootstrap, the resulting PWA looks like a website. If you take Framework7 the resulting PWA looks more like a native App (including animations and the like).

How should PWA take off, when Apple with a high mobile market share refuses to implement basic APIs like the Push API and other browsers can't run their own engine on iOS? It is abusive, but who cares.

What did we expect? I mean how long is it now that Apple refuses to implement the Push API properly (which in turn is a basic requirement for many PWA use-cases). They clearly try to use their influence to defend their App Store revenue. An

The problem is, that it rarely happens under normal circumstances. So you might build a logic which synchronizes your data to the server but rarely has to download it as most of the time it still has a relatively current snapshot. And the f

In fact, just this week I thought about why Google doesn't make its mobile maps website fast again. It is such a pain to use it on older phones and I totally don't get, why it has to be that slow (doesn't matter if chrome or

What do you mean by 'just Firefox'? Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Safari all support Progressive Web Apps in general. Older browsers, on the other hand, might not be able to use offline features, but at least you can use the app in the t

Web apps are better because they are as much device-independent as apps can get nowadays. Service Workers are the background service for web apps, but since users don't want those services to drain the battery unnecessarily, you have t

For some things, it is not that simple. Let's take for example the Push API. While there are very few web sites where you want them to send you notifications straight to your desktop, that API is also used to wake up your Service Worke
