Yeah, web apps mostly get to ignore stuff like this until they're really big. But then sometimes you're a startup like Akiban Technologies and this is what you do.

Interesting. I've never considered that git doesn't give access -- it's always seemed right there to me, whether I want to tweak it by calling out to a git tool to do it, or doing it myself.

Interesting. What's the difference to you? Git's extensions are shell (or whatever other language) tools is all, in my mind.

It's really a question of how much state you're storing, and how you're dealing with that. Many languages and many runtimes allocate stacks in megabytes, and store every local variable in it. With a callback-based system, stacks are short,
