Have you try Haskell? The most used compiler, GHC, shipped with it's own REPL and it's quite good. Something I missed when coding in Rust.

You don't really need to use NixOs to use Nix really. I use Nix inside my Ubuntu laptop to pin all my projects dependecies and it worked great.

To be fair, most asked questions about Haskell that people always have is if Haskell is so good and not just purely for academics then where is Haskell used in industry? Or is there really huge and complex software projects written in Haske

You could always use transpile to js language like CoffeeScript or ClojureScript for a nicer syntax. Combines it with build system like Gulp or Grunt really makes the experiences pretty painless.

I can relate to this too. This is why I lack participation in HN discussions even though I've been here for about 3 years and always checking HN regularly. English is my third language and I barely speak it at home. So I still feel r

This exactly my thought too. It looks like everybody who already know Lisp will developed some sweet spots for it. My guess once you experience the Lisp kool-aid, it'll be hard to be apart with it. You'll miss it whenever you code
