I wonder what would have happened in the absence of coal/fossils. Obviously anything requiring higher temperatures than possible with charcoal would have been off limits for a longer period. But what would have powered an industrial re

I am only little surprised that it works; after all, compiling a program for two platforms results in a mostly equivalent control flow graphs, except for optimizations and different code gen strategies (*); and of course platform specific s

Copying files has the disadvantage of requiring some merge mechanism, or not permitting parallel modification. I found vaultwarden to be a nice alternative. It runs on my server at home, to which I connect the relevant devices by VPN. It st

Got the 9310 dev edition as well. With 32GB of RAM, the biggest CPU and the touch screen (not 4k). However, since I wanted US keyboard layout (living in EU) & ordered via my employer, I had to go through our sales representative anyway;

The same attacks can likely also be used to capture verification emails. E.g. for DNS if you can spoof TXT records for Gmail using some malicious server, chances are you can also spoof MX records. And I can't think of shenanigans with

I think "it depends". For someone living in the same city as you, but having both their apartment and place of work connected by a more feasible public transport route, a bike competes with public transport. For me it augments it:

I'm not quite sure about the fact that ebikes become cheaper. Theoretically yes and practically "somewhat": But a lot of people are convinced that e.g. the 1k€ ebike sold by Aldi must be crap and you need to get one of the mo

Btw, a lot of bad things are already present as compile time warnings. Using -Wall -Werror (or similar) should already the default for new projects for well over a decade. You probably know that, but "stealing" stuff from there is

I hate writing proper C++ casts because C style is just shorter (e.g. (T)(foobar)), and have to force myself to write the whole invocation. So yeah, not even having the lazy option wouldn't be too bad :)

- define the evaluation order for function parameters, e.g. f(a(), b()) [or is that well defined in modern C++?] - allow for named arguments. E.g. let's say for the definition f(int a = 12, int b = 42), one might call f(b: 1337) or f(1

The baseline is not zero GW. If the grid planned for 35 to 40GW of demand for today and then sees 42GW load, the 0.125GW are over 5% of the excess load. Serving baseline from batteries is unrealistic and will be for quite some time. Smoot

At least UK and Germany also have virtual power plants for various purposes. It's a smart way to handle peak demand and it's great that Tesla allows regular people to participate (and profit) from this [edit]so easily[/edit].

I feel very much the same :) Maybe we both "just" need to find a niche (or simple enough) product that can be started as an extended hobby. But I fear these are often not very interesting or won't even make us millionaires. H
