Well, DOGE and their ilk killed all those sick/starving people and managed to increase the debt somehow.

Death and suffering on an unfathomable scale will be the ultimate legacy of these people. I wish they would be confronted with their crimes in front of a tribunal, but they’ll probably get away with what they did, at least in a legal sense.

People who do this are no longer engineers in any real sense. They’ve switched careers to technical management.

Personally, I've never seen a dead comment come back to life. I'm not sure using the vouch button does anything. (It does for submissions, though.)

I beg to differ. It's a far cry from where it was a decade ago.

They only have to slip up once. And they will, because LLM users are lazy, and LLM content naturally regresses towards the mean.

Fine. Looking at today's /active, it's more than half just based on the titles. (Likely 2/3 or more in practice, but I did not delve into each post.) And this does not feel particularly unusual.

Pretty trivial for a writer to say “no AI used on this blog.”

A good link aggregator should strive to select the <1% of articles that are actually high quality. Who cares what “everyone” is doing?

I am exclusively interested in the remaining 5% that is not AI slop, so yes, I always want to see that information.

As opposed to wonderful old HN, where about 95% of the front page is now AI, AI-related, or AI-generated.

Not Brazil — Mexico — but the movie Roma does an amazing job at dissecting this sort of dynamic.

Designing good tests requires the most intelligence. Sometimes even more than writing the code itself. You have to fully understand the code, its uses, and its various edge cases. Automating this away feels like massive folly.

People, generally, do not like to die. They will do various things to avoid doing so. The Luddites were a small group; AI has the chance to turn a majority of society into loom-smashers, which will be very fun to watch.

Just as a reminder, Musk's actions lead directly to the deaths of (likely hundreds of) thousands of people in the third world: https://archive.ph/20250629012329/https://www.nytimes.com/20... , https

It's inevitable that at some point, a hostile nation will, ah, "disagree" with this laissez faire approach and start launching junk satellites at the Starlink constellation. That should be fun.

Maybe it's a good thing to only do those things you can find (or make) the time for. When the rug gets pulled, what are you going to do with this giant pile of unfinished and unmaintained projects?

Cynical? The press release for the latest Grok version is sitting at the top of the front page. And half the people on this site don't see the problem with that. They'll welcome their roman-saluting overlords with open arms.
