Even a war at the scale of WWII every half-century is far better than a nuclear exchange. MAD works until it doesn’t. It’s almost inevitable that some cretin will hit the shiny red button at some point.

Most Mastodon instances already have moderation. Can that be leveraged? Or does it tend to be too permissive? If I only show comments from a well-moderated Mastodon instance that my main account is on, plus any instances that it federates w

It's possible that it will become mass adopted in the future on account of its (effective) uncensorability. The gulf between Bluesky and Mastodon UX is, in my opinion, relatively small and fixable with a bit of effort.

I'm in the process of writing up a blog post on how network shares on macOS are kind of cursed. Highlights: * Files on SMB shares sometimes show up as "NDH6SA~M" or similar, even though that's not their filename on the a

Human art will become bolder, more dynamic, and a lot more weird to keep ahead of the GenAI digestive tract. Forever avant garde. I'm actually a little excited to see what happens.

Nevertheless, I think it's unconscionable to let landlords arbitrarily increase rent and evict people at will. Rent control and increasing the housing supply should be orthogonal issues, more or less.

If you live in rent controlled housing in SF, your rent increases are gonna be a lot less than 10% a year. And you're unlikely to ever be evicted due to a house sale. During our last apartment search, it was not particularly difficult

Uh, that’s a weirdly cynical take on it. They’re not “reinventing” the concept of a family, they’re choosing their family. I’m not sure why that’s so strange to you versus, I guess, raising kids in some sort of isolated nuclear family type

Should it be the responsibility of a periodical to publish every random Nazi op-ed? (And then send out push notifications for it?) Assholes can self-publish, as always, IMO.

I mean, that’s not great. But saying “they shouldn’t do that” accomplishes nothing. People will wield their power to cancel whether you like it or not. Want it to end? Work towards making people feel like they can actually seek justice when

I think the main issue is people being fed up with society treating them like crap and taking advantage of an opportunity to do something about it.

Well, maybe women who’ve been sexually harassed for most of their lives, and who couldn’t even feel safe at their own community events, were fed up with “letting it go.” (Caveat: I have no idea what happened with this particular person.)
