A 747 with 2 engines out that's already got some altitude and speed is much more "survivable" (still extraordinarily difficult) than a trijet trying to take off on 1 engine, which is impossible. Planes can safely land with 0

I've used the official Nvidia drivers on Linux for 5 years now and had excellent performance and few or no graphical glitches, with most issues coming early on. None within the last 2 years. Never experienced high CPU or freezing. My c

I have been waiting for this time to come. Microsoft clearly doesn't care about Windows very much, and Linux has never been more ready to break out in market share. Quite exciting to see!

It is without merit. There are more than a handful of modern internet companies running on Perl. Amazon runs a LOT of Perl for CDO. Who has scaled more than Amazon? This is a very ignorant take that selectively chooses to look at the fact t

I have a problem. I know, I'll post a dismissive, overly reductive platitude and farm points on HN. Perl 5 is a great language far ahead of it's time, it's extremely functional, and it still underpins many large and important

Nobody in the US uses these apps, and in my opinion, for the better.

"hey bro, just download this crappy totally trustworthy app and add me just to talk to me and only me!" is a patently ridiculous thing to try and sell people on.

Yes, "if your enemy is state sponsored attackers" you shouldn't do many things, like use bcrypt incorrectly, or really passwords almost at all. That's obviously not what I'm saying.

Okay. How many major wordlists include emojis? Maybe...like...a dozen entries at most across all of them?

I would argue that a password containing emojis is unlikely to ever be cracked, because no attacker is going to test emojis unless they have some reason to believe you use them in your password.

I don't think that this is an indictment of creating the Jira ticket, or prioritization, or anything. It reads to me like a reminder that we often focus too heavily on the other work and thoughts that are adjacent to doing something, g

I hadn't installed a non-Play Store app for something like 5 years until this year. I don't see why I should have been forced to factory reset my phone then.

Some security is better than no security. It already took years to even get some of these backwards-thinking companies and services to adopt SMS OTP and it's simple for non-technical users to intuit. Also, believe it or not, some peopl
