The best hiring outcomes I've ever seen was a program manager who hired entirely on attitude. As long as you had programmed something/anything in the past, if you could sit through a 45 minute interview and have a great attitude y

It's a simple answer: they can't. The constitution lays out the process for accomplishing things that everyone "agrees" to by living under its jurisdiction. If you want to accomplish something unconstitutional, you can,

Can we start including the names of the directors and VPs who are agreeing to these deals? This isn't just a faceless company, there are really people who are ethically compromised and we need to know who they are.

RSS is not great but I abhorred atom with a passion back when I was working with feeds. It was a way overcomplicated xml mess. RSS is so much simpler to work with, you just have to deal with less than stellar documentation.

This is true across the board. One tiny crack in a bridge might mean it will collapse. That doesn't mean we should stop building bridges.

Thank you for sharing that experience. It was a very interesting read. However, lest anyone get the wrong opinion, password hashing is a very simple, straightforward, solved problem and has been for years. One person doing something monumen

The few times I was able to read something without the annoying paywall jumping in my face, I was disappointed and disgusted with the quality of what I read and the asinine opinions offered. I too abhor the NYT.

I never understood the difficulty with CORS. It's dirt simple: don't send requests across domain names. And if you do, make sure you return header(s) from the target resource to specifically allow the origin to request it. All the

Never ever ever stay where someone treats you badly. There are great leaders out there, go work for them. I ask questions in my interviews to get at what kind of leader I'll be working for and that's the #1 consideration for me. I

I have never seen anyone, even the ORM "experts" in my jobs, save time with an ORM over what a junior engineer couldn't do faster with plain SQL. The reason is that sure, for your first 10 basic select queries, the ORM saved

I actually read it as a argument FOR types and against modern languages choice to make the String class a weak proxy for typeless byte arrays. See all the arguments (in this HN comments no less!) for just using utf8 byte arrays as strings.

There is 18 U.S. Code § 831,832, but it doesn't outright forbid owning a nuclear weapon. There is also the interesting issue of nonproliferation treaties to consider. Could the US signing an arms agreement impact your second amendment

I think you could accomplish something similar with token pagination by requesting a number of items that will result in multiple "pages" for your user interface. Then as the user iterates through you can request additional items.
