I'm talking about the submitter. The section header that the submitter linked to (#MM) is entitled "On Marshmallows and Gender Differences: Rereading Self-Discipline Research."

Given that HN loves gender differences, he probably did. And on that note, I'm not sure the marshmallow study is particularly relevant to his point. The reason girls do better in school is probably for a number of reasons, maturity probabl

You managed to offend me here, but not for the reasons you think. I have two very close friends who are transgender, one of whom got transitional surgery less than a week ago, so you can go fuck yourself.

I did. The point still stands. It's akin to how people say that we need Mexicans in the country, because who else is going to do the farming? You can declare a group of people both necessary and inferior all in the same sentence.

Oh whatever. People are continually obsessed with being "real"- being a "real" atheist or a "real" Christian, being a "real" submissive, or a "real" man, or a "real" whatever. What it really comes down to is that some people think they are

I guess what is obvious to me is that conspicuous behavior != conscious behavior. No one is really thinking "this will impress the ladies" or "this will impress the guys" when they perform these behaviors, but that's really irrelevant. Mos

I think that idea that men use wealth to attract mates is pretty damn obvious, but I never really considered that women use displays of altruism to attract males. But makes sense that women would want to say "look! I'll make a good mommy!

My expectation when I went to grad school would be that I would have more freedom to do what I was interested in than I ever had before. What I found was that what I had to do was far more constricting than undergrad; I had take take cours

What would be cool would be if all the high performing kids had to tutor the low performing kids. The nice thing about that solution is that it is both a) cheap and b) helps both parties, unlike this policy. Unfortunately, the low performi

The implication is that "instinct" knows better than you do. But my instinct sucks. I have no usable skills, and yet I'm not nervous at all- I'm fairly fearless in general. It's reason that's telling me that this is probably a bad idea, no

No real advice, but I can tell you exactly what I did with very little background (not that I'm any good at it.) 1. Took a biology class that involved using matlab. Found the matlab part more fun than the biology. 2. Went through this cou
