I come at it from a non-commercial perspective; at most I've had two hives at a time. I was mostly speaking from personal experience of winter losses; it's really heartbreaking. Commercial hives are indeed relatively mobile, as they're tem

This is the critical winter for the beekeeping industry. I don't think we can survive. As a beekeeper, this phrase has meaning that might be overlooked by someone who is not one. It may seem obvious, but the most difficult time for bees

I might have considered this a good idea, before I played SecondLife with Linden dollars, or used points on Listia, or got gold on Gaia Online. The problem with these virtual currencies so far is that they're very unstable and they suffer f

"Science is based on facts" is a nonsensical statement. Science is a method by which one tries to establish facts. The problem is that it is a process run by humans which have biases. Bias can influence many things in science, not least o

Your tone is rather aggressive. Why is that? In fact, it did keep him up at night that his lab was receiving grants from the government. That's why he ultimately made the decision he did. It's impossible for someone to be completely mo

I should point out that Visa itself hasn't actually decided to stop payments to WikiLeak- only Visa Europe, its subsidiary. The people that run Visa.com are only responsible for selling Visa Europe the rights to use the name.

It's possible that maybe he's only spending an hour a piece on these, but he might go back to them later and build on them more for a portfolio. It's good to make a bunch of quick and diverse designs just to see what happens.

It's not meant to be accurate. In another comment someone claimed that 2% was "low" and I'm just pointing out that climbing Mt. Everest is one of the more risky things you can do. Obviously at an individual level it loses meaning, but peo

The article quotes a 1/50 chance of dying. For perspective, only 1/20 suicide attempts are successful. That means that climbing Mt. Everest is only half as deadly as trying to actively kill yourself.

More evidence that we have trouble thinking about probability as applied to our daily lives. That's a 2% chance over a four day period. I don't know if that number is accurate- it's from the article, if you've read it- but even though it
