Nice idea but why they don't talk about what they really do? Five sentences in the "what we do" section isn't enough, where's detailed plan? And as I see in their latest financial report, they've got 7.86 milli

I second that. I understand SSD space is expensive, but sometimes you have 0.05 load average and full disk. At least it would be nice to get some kind of Amazon EBS analogue.

Pretty accurate article. The main point is that smile is a base in USA, and neutral is base here in Russia. But personal conversations (especially with people you know) are full of smiling. And I don't think that's such a big deal

And ironically, MS is the one which can prevent Amazon from doing bad things. Since it's a very large company with a lot of resources and they invest heavily in Azure. Google stands near with its compute engine. And there's bunch

That's a good question. They've been lowering prices regularly. Does it come from infrastructure improvement or from smaller margins? Pretty hard to know from the outside.

Yes, but all that features like S3, ELB, RedShift etc. are just a software layer based on their top-notch hardware infrastructure. And fro the original article: 'The cost of delivering a service at scale is all in the infrastructure. T

I wonder how come Amazon didn't mop up the floor with his competitors (e.g. DigitalOcean, Rackspace) price-wise if AWS infrastructure is so optimized? Of course, they have more features, but that's all kinda software-related, and

Not tiny number of subscribers but large emails/subscribers ratio. If you have 1000 subscribers and some daily news, you'll end up with much less price at MailChimp than SendGrid. And main thing about step from free account is unl

If you have many subscribers and a few emails sent to them, you can look at SendGrid, they have unlimited subscribers but limited send volume.

But they are a bit different. MailChimp is about marketing emails, that's why 2000 - it's the number of subscribers, not emails. On paying accounts they have no limit to the number of emails sent. SendGrid gravitate more to transa

Wait, so RedShift (Drill, Impala, Presto) do the same job as Hadoop\Hive, only faster? You only mentioned they addressed the speed, but what's downside? At what cost they achieved their velocity?

Nice move from DO to give everyone $500 credit. As I remember, they don't guarantee data safety (you still need backups even if they did). Double disk failure is a rare thing, but it happens.
