A lot of people derive their politics not from principles, but from association. If my Team is for it and opponents are against it, then I am for it.

Salaries are definitely lower in Europe for seasoned professionals, but for students I don't think that holds.

What does "net-zero" mean in this context? I would have assumed of course that wind turbines are net negative emissions, even factoring in the construction and materials. Do they mean net-zero in materials and construction alone?

Those are really short and therefore much less efficient. Wind power scales as a cube with speed, and speed scales as a power with height. A little more height can make a big difference.

You make me feel like a cliche... Left for Berlin in 2021 and do not regret it one bit. Edit: I had a choice between a masters program in the US for about $30,000/year or in Berlin for €700/year. It was obvious which choice was no

That's not really what AGI means. The economy will tremendously grow from AGI, it just won't necessarily involve people anymore.

Any time critics single out “autocomplete” in AI coding tooling, I know they haven’t really played around with this stuff. Autocomplete is barely useful with or without AI. The real game changers are “chat-with-codebase” or agentic developm

Why do you think this? Because if this is supposed to be something nefarious then I don't understand it.

Maybe. But I also think that ignoring AI tools will hamper your long-term skillsets, as our profession adapts to these new tools.

This whole saga has been very funny to watch, but it's also very dark and concerning. This one was very sloppy, but in truth, the owners in charge of these models have tons of power to editorialize behind the scenes. And they are going

I thought Cursor was dumb and useless too when I was just using autocomplete. It's the "agent chat" on the sidebar that is where it really shines.

This is absolutely a "trend" (been going on for years now) in nightclubs in Berlin. Almost none of them allow photography of any sort, and will sticker up your phone at the entrance to remind you. When you are taking photos or eve

My image prompt is just to have them make a realistic chess game. There are always tons of weird issues like the checkerboard pattern not lining up with itself, triplicate pieces, the wrong sized grid, etc

I don't follow this example. You could still have an account delete the email while generating a record that an email was deleted. Why would you need an account that doesn't generate deletion records ?

There are two gases that need to be exchanged when you breathe. You need to get rid of CO2 and you need to get O2. When you hyperventilate, you purge CO2, but don't really change your O2 content. This matters only because CO2 is what t

If you view the world in black-and-white with "Good" people and "Bad" people, then this makes it easier to ensnare the bad people and won't affect the good ones. (Not a viewpoint I agree with)

Yes. I've loved not having to do some of the boring busywork tasks of coding. Basic CRUD pages, simple frontend stuff, general glue between existing services.

It's cute but I don't see the benefit. In my experience, if one LLM fails to solve a problem, the other ones won't be too different. If you picked a problem where LLMs are good, now you have to review 3 PRs instead of just 1.
