Do you have some good articles on database migrations in production ? I've had some bad experiences, e.g: a delete locking for a long time and no one being able to use it :D

It's not about feeling like I own the company or not. I make decisions based on what I believe is right and efficient for the problem at hand. If I were CEO I would have different contexts and problems at hand probably...

I've deployed it with the pretty minimum configs, I've wrote a consumer with the minimum python example, and a writer with the minimum python example. It all just sort of works, what am I missing beyond this ? Is this the basics ?

It's 2023, it still just works and much of the internet/world runs on top of it. Take it as you wish :)

Might be the exception but I’m at a company with tens of thousand of people and we don’t have many rituals, if you want to solve a problem you go and do it. But you do have to own your solution.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I hear similar things here in Canada and from friends in Europe. Seems like the system is globally collapsing regardless of the flavour. No system was ready for what covid put it through

It’s worth noting that some big companies have something like what you describe. I was building packages for one and it’s basically reverse engineering however something is packed (e.g an RPM) and making it build/bundle in the way big

That's really cool! Seems like as the comment on your blog said, you could try to template it and perhaps offer Mastodon as a service on AWS? :) Thanks for sharing.

Look at a timeframe of 10-20 years. You will likely lose a lot of money in some bets and be worse off than if you just did the index. But who knows, good luck to you
