This is mostly just due to how nonprofits work. If you have excess revenue, you can’t return it to shareholders so you might as well spend it on mission-oriented activities.

That initially looked pretty interesting but a quick peek through issues and folks are complaining that it’s opinionated on git workflows and overriding user instructions otherwise. No thanks. Edit: a deeper look at the issues and there are

I would need further convincing that humans do not naturally tend towards bidirectional recall. Perhaps I’m just on alert anytime I see an LLM-ism that’s met with a claim that the same or similar phenomena holds true in humans as well.

I had an unrelated undergrad did my MSCS online (not JHU but same idea). It was great. But if you’re already senior at FAANG I’m not sure you need further legitimacy.

I was never really sold their acquihire of Alexandr Wang as their head of AI being a coherent strategic decision. I just don’t see how his experience and background actually applies for frontier LLM model building. I think there would easil

I think I agree with the spirit of your post mostly, but this bit: > Imagine you are a contractor on a gig. You don't wait until things break before you ask for access. You ask, before the job starts, what all the doors are and who

This approach works extraordinarily well for essentially all interpersonal communications. Friendships, relationship prospects, etc.

I agree with this and think the most important part here is less about you actually solving any specific problem and more about your prospect as a possible value add instead of just another task on your TODO list

I took a look at dregg, I like the idea for an README-LLMS.txt. It seems like a good way to not only communicate to other LLM users (which we should be thinking more of doing effectively) but also I can imagine it’s helpful for your own new

We had them in our yard growing up, I recall regularly playing with the berries for the exact same reason. Funny enough my dad did warn me not to eat it, but based on this post eating the berry itself would have been one of the few ways it’

I don’t mean to insult you, but it is probably worth refreshing yourself on when slippery slope is actually a fallacy. It’s not correct to suggest logical extension of an established precedent is a slippery slope.

I find I don’t necessarily need or want AI to give me ideas, but I would agree having a conversational back and forth generally yields decent results. I have found being Socratic in my questions, and trying to get the AI to arrive at my int

This is the root of AI psychosis. There’s a lot of unpack here, and I won’t go too deep because you can’t really have a discussion with affected folks because their fundamental basis is not evidence, it’s belief. It is weirdly religious in

It makes a lot of sense if you understand how these models work but this was a cool read anyways and studies like this are impotent for curbing the unfortunate fever dream some folks seem to be collectively having about LLM omnipotence

I don’t think it’s as cognitively dissonant as you make it out to be, the dominating sentiment outside the corp world is quite negative. Yeah there are a few positive perspectives to be had, and not to mention complexity of perspective does

Interestingly I have found many tech circles in SF would rarely discuss ultra local things like supervisor politics. I don’t even think it’s taboo, I just have found folks tend to not be super informed on any of it. Lurie does seem to captu

Sony and Apple aren’t the only offenders. Google Play Music did something similar 12 years ago or so. It’s been a bit but I recall permanently losing access to a lot of music I owned at the time.

So the counterpoint to this is that we are collectively getting more news and more updates than ever before and we’re still in the situation of today. I can’t argue with your premise because I agree, but the empirical data shows that if any

Honestly LLMs are the ideal candidate for CalVer. It’s not like there’s any real API so there’s no backwards compatibility to maintain. Even Apple adopted and standardized on it for their latest platform releases.

I think small tools people make for themselves is realistically less than 1% of software produced. Most of the code, and - to the GP’s point - bad code, is produced in corporations with plenty of money and budget. There is just such a treme
