I don't think it's dashboards specifically, I think it's things that require a relatively small amount of code that fits in the context window and is easy to iterate on using natural language.

The killer feature of Discord for me is being able to jump between communities without logging in to each of them. Open source alternatives never provide that. Does this one? Matrix is the obvious exception but the UX has always been terrib

When it worked, IPX LAN was maybe the peak UX in multiplayer gaming. Moving everything to TCP/IP came with a lot of improvements, but we also lost important things. Reminds me of the move from Flash to HTML5.
