SSE doesn't support binary data without encoding to something base64 first. These days I'd recommend a fetch stream with TLV messages first, followed by WebSocket.

Even if it could mean Tailscale enshittifies eventually, this is probably a good thing for the ecosystem. As one example, the bigger they get, the more likely operating systems will build better APIs to support what they do (for example ma

What is the best option for playing LAN games over the internet these days? Hamachi appears to still be a thing, but I would prefer something open source. Tailscale sadly doesn't support multicast, which I'm assuming most games us

That's awesome. What sort of changes have they made? I feel like that's got to be a tricky line to walk for a classic game.

I thought about almost this exact thing recently. I hope we're able to keep the best games running forever. For games that are fun I think you can leave in balance issues and even features-not-bugs. It's trickier for things like n

Check out Voobly. That seems to be a pretty big hub for people playing the original games, I think mostly patched versions of the originals with some nice features.

While the game itself runs over LAN, my understanding is LAN play requires internet for 2 reasons: 1. the game connecting to multiplayer services 2. coordination server for the LAN setup itself. I think this covers #2. #1 appears to be more

Curious what your use case is as opposed to using the official LAN support? For me, I'm trying to get it working completely without internet, ie on a plane. It's so sad to me that built-in LAN requires an internet connection.

All good points. This is why I'm so excited about this development. Maybe wifi aware will provide a reliable means of local discovery. At that point we're just missing an open source library that makes the devex for implementing L

I frequently play Age of Empires 2 with my wife and her brother. Remarkably, this game still supports LAN play in 2025, even though the netcode has been completely overhauled since 1999. However, we decided to try it on a recent flight, and

So basically the reasoning is that things like wasi-http wouldn't be mandatory for a compliant implementation? That would be good. Thanks for the link. I was trying to find a single page with everything listed.

That's actually a pretty good idea, thanks. FWIW I'm a bit torn on this. I think most websites should host both HTTP/2/3 with TLS, but also plaintext HTTP/1.1 as a fallback.

Thank you for Exstism. My main request is that you keep the core interface as simple and forkable as is feasible. You're certainly incentivized to make it as complicated as possible so only your team can maintain it, but I hope you
