What I don't understand is how you get a gig teaching a course at Stanford while being an undergraduate student at Stanford. Is this some sort of special seminar course or something?

by apetresc 9y ago
You both remind me of Lucille Bluth. $20 is PLENTY for a "decent" lunch, even in SF... you can be much more than "pretty sure" that you can have dinner for less than $150, too.

You're not great with metaphors, huh?

That's because there hasn't been too much concentrated effort on this problem yet, since you'd have to spend quite a bit of effort just integrating with the game engine. Certainly a lot less research has been done on computer

That's an awful lot of extra work to insure against maybe 1 hour per year of downtime.

So wait, they're incentivizing people with overdue books to wait on average 6 months before returning them? Wouldn't it make more sense to make "forgiveness day" simply a day where your late fees are, say, 95% discounted

I don't know about OP, but the Toronto Public Library system has this as well.

My guess is he's reverse-engineering that number from taxes allocated to public libraries or something like that.

I'd assume it's because most companies aren't big winners or big losers.

Oh my god, no. The Azure Portal is absolutely the worst part of the Azure experience, by a long, long stretch. I don't know anyone who uses it regularly who likes it.

Whoops, yes, meant "on or after".

It's spelled out clearly on the order page – there's no special upgrade pricing, unless you bought v4 on or before June 1st, 2017, in which case it's free.

by apetresc 9y ago
No, that would be a waste of time. I'd rather just watch it as a form of payment for the thousands-of-dollars-worth of free services I access every day.

I'll go ahead and state the obvious – it's because the vast majority of the files /r/Datahoarders is hoarding is illegal material that they don't want to get ToS'ed for.

Why would it matter? Surely if the Chinese government was able to MITM the JS to do bad stuff, they could also MITM the HTML to serve Javascript even if you originally weren't?

It's not the school that's gathering and releasing these statistics, it's just a graduating student. It's not hard to imagine why he'd be interested in it.

There are many things people justifiably complain about DynamoDB, but operational support has rarely been one of them.
648.
by apetresc 9y ago
Yes, that is accurate. DB operations to DynamoDB are just AWS API calls, the same as you would use to spin up an EC2 instance or create an S3 bucket.

There's nothing wrong per-se with the clause, but the linked article, as well as the source WaPo and Bloomberg articles, go out of their way to call it "unusual", which WOULD make it seem like a big deal (if it were true). It

It's the opposite, actually. "Experts" are pushing for higher framerates, but "average viewers" complain that something feels wrong, home-video-y, and just plain weird on high-FPS movies. They can't put their f

Just to confirm - this is satire, right? You're riffing on people like Nicholas Taleb and Stephen Wolfram? I'm not completely sure I get the joke.

It's only really targeting text-editor-level settings, things like encoding, EOLs, and "what characters does the tab key emit". It doesn't attempt to solve every formatting/linting/style issue, that would make

To be a bit more precise, the changelog says: > TensorFlow 1.1.0 will be the last time we release a binary with Mac GPU support. Going forward, we will stop testing on Mac GPU systems. We continue to welcome patches that maintain Mac GPU

A lot of static hosting methods don't make it easy to implement HTTP basic auth. The beauty of this approach is it's completely transparent to the network/application layer. You can use this with just some files on S3 or GitH

Also note the design of that pie chart - 'left' is on the right, and 'right' is on the left.

Yeah, everyone's making a big deal out of the name. Is "Sierra" some sort of stoner reference I don't understand, or is it really just the fact that they put the word "High" in there? Is that really how grade-s

It's also just a terrible product. I've given Pool a fair shake twice so far – in both cases, I left the car after spending ~30 minutes and being further from my destination than when I'd started.
