I think CoffeeScript provides a good DSL over JavaScript as it is. I found the pythonlike syntax pleasant while also easy for a JavaScript veteran to pick up and run with. Your idea seems like a mix between Java Smalltalk and ruby to me. I

Same thing happened to me recently. I find the interview goes much smoother and both parties feel more satisfaction about the interaction if the interview is more free-style where we talk about relevant interests, experiences, and skills.

I had the ISP problem as well, are you sure they scan all ports? They might just be scanning common HTTP ports such as 80, 88, 8080, 8888, etc. I would pick some random port to host a web server and setup a load balancer on linode using ngi

This is even more important for bigger sites because on staging sites with limited data some performance issues won't be visible until bigger data is thrown at the code

How about an EC2 micro (600MB ram) reserved instance? $54 one-time fee for a year (~$4.5/m), then .007 an hour (~$5/m). Comes out to a around $10-12/m depending on bandwidth usage and other AWS usage factors.

Apache is pretty much the standard for a lot of companies so you can't go wrong with learning that. But you should def. do some reading on nginx, and lighttpd as well

nginx, and pound are two widely used web load balancers. You should be able to find plenty of blog posts and write-ups with sample configs for setting those two up. For databases, at least with MySQL, you should setup a master -> slave(
