Awesome! Kudos to the Omni guys for opening up the code, rather than let it fall into obscurity. It will hopefully serve as a nice example of how to architect a professional app.

This article is about a year old by now. Since then, a significant amount of progress has been made. Full details are available in this research paper published at the HIPS conference this year. http://www.cs.indiana.edu/~eh

Looks like the v3 update still doesn't support NetPBM files (.pgm, .ppm, etc) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netpbm_format A much earlier version did support this common file format, but for some strange reason it

This is hugely significant. The No.1 GPU vendor in the PC market has seen the writing on the wall, and is not standing still. They clearly see the PC market in decline, and mobile/embedded is the way of the future, with Android as the

I expect they will do very much what Imagination Tech does now with their PowerVR graphics cores. License them to SOC designers who integrate them with a CPU (invariably ARM) and other peripheral cores (eg. DSP, Ethernet, I/O, etc) and

Not sure, but the latest Tegra offering has some surprisingly impressive performance/watt figures. (I attended an NVidia roadshow a while back, but don't have the brochures here.)

My first thought too. They have sunk an awful lot of money into GPUs without ever delivering a really competitive offering. And then there was Larrabee...

Not exactly - it's more complicated than that ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opengl_es ). GLES was originally a simplified spec based on the desktop API, but optimized for mobile and embedded devices. They have si

I love this idea very much - mainly because I had virtually the same idea maybe 5 years ago. I was frustrated with existing prototyping/design systems and getting bogged down in details and pixels instead of thinking about the 'big picture

What's sad is not only the dishonesty about the material, but what it says about the product. Do they simply not have enough confidence in their own flagship smartphone, with an apparently world-beating camera, to show an actual unretouched

One aspect of this approach they don't mention is how it affects the MTBF of the equipment. Many components suffer increased failure rates when run at a consistently higher temperature. While it may be relatively safe to run machines in a
