Thank you for clearly elucidating the difference between what we had and what we're going to have moving forward. I'm so tired of this trend where folk keep pitching significant reductions of technical capability as some kind of &

It does not please me that this announcement comes at a time when Stripe took an unprecedented FIVE DAYS to transfer incoming payments to my bank account. Is this the new ultra-capitalism? Delay my payments so that I am forced to take on lo

Analog electronics, working to get past the "wire things together and hope they work" stage and learn how to design circuits from scratch. Edit: Oh, and Rust as well :)

Well hold on a minute with that enthusiasm there pardner! If anti-trust is on the table it's the government who will be deciding whose ecosystem it is and exactly who owes what to whom.

Pet peeves: * WKWebView is the only browser engine allowed on iOS. * Apps can only be distributed through the iOS app store. * No formal appeals processes based on established judicial principles for either Apple or Google.

I've found that folk ask better questions if I reduce my availability. I get paid considerably more than 75% for 50% _time_. [1] Mainly because I'm in a position where I get paid by the value of my work rather than by the amount o

I'm not entirely sure why anyone thinks downvoting observations from reality will change their outcomes but hey… this is slashdot^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H HN I guess.

Yeah, if you're not offering me 75% pay for 50% work I'm not interested. My peak productivity is 3 days a week. The gains from working more than that are marginal at best.

No buts. EXACTLY this. Unless you are a unicorn or a huckster writing mobile apps is no longer an attractive business. We provide a hybrid app development platform for mobile and over the last nine years we've watched a steady exodus o

No thank you, I don't want to have to choose between the two. I'd like to see an end to both overpaid CEO's and criminal activity.

The reason to bring up paper is that the cost of election fraud is much higher than any "efficiency" gains to be had by digitising the process. This is (often) not true for word processors.

I think the thing to understand about behemoths like Microsoft is that if the "others" are collecting data then your career will benefit if you hep Microsoft do what the "others" are doing.

Looks like it's time to migrate the rest of my stuff off US-based hosts. Today Iran, tomorrow who knows? Far easier to take a couple days to move my stuff now than having to do it under duress in a year or two.

Unless they're literally about to fire you it should be okay if you 1) stop missing startup and 2) spend a little more time reviewing your work before submitting a pull request.

This seems to be a common theme on HN where folk who purport to be senior level profess their ignorance as to how one goes about performing one of the very basic tasks their role would require of them. If you don't know how to do backg
