Sounds about right, most of us already are. But why would the AI need our shit? Surely it wants electricity?

It wasn't about making apps difficult to distribute at all, that's a later side effect. Originally distros were built around making a coherent unified system of package management that made it easier to manage a system due to ever

I don't think Docker came about due to cgroups and namespaces being arcane, LXC was already abstracting that away. Docker's claim to fame was connecting that existing stuff with layered filesystem images and packaging based off th

Does Z80 or 6502 on 8bit computers count? I'm not a great programmer and don't code full time, but I've done a bit of that 8bit assembler and enjoyed the relatively finite single-focused determinism of it, but I don't kn

I was a little surprised to have to scroll this far down to see BeOS come up. The first Amiga mention wasn't far above it either.

Since high school in the 80s I still remember the phonetic mnemonic "soh cah toa" one teacher mentioned off the cuff once. sine is opposite over hypotenuse cosine is adjacent over hypotenuse tangent is opposite over adjacent

I often do that frequently. I should do it, but forget to not fully proof read after a quick edit. I also regularly leave out n't a lot when changing where a negation happens (see above).

Lying on the living room floor looking up the the TV was great for getting a sore neck. And I still have crusty calloused skin on my elbows from the carpet. Getting an Amiga later on with an actual monitor that sat on a desk was amazing.

Alpha support was removed in one of the later NT5 betas right? Makes sense that it would've been late 90s then, before it was renamed Windows 2000 for release.

Wasn't much of the Athlon designed by laid-off DEC Alpha engineers that AMD snapped up? Makes sense that AMD64 makes sense to an Alpha fanboy :)

Yeah, I remember hearing that at the time too. When MS chose to support AMD64, they made it clear it was the only 64bit x86 ISA they were going to support, even though it was an open secret Intel was sitting on one but not wanting to announ

Another problem is that the blade are twisted like propeller rather than straight like a wing. Which then leads to.... Why not a giant helicopter? Then you don't need to worry about the symmetry.

Atlassian and MS are terrible for making email notifications that are really hard to distinguish from phishing emails. Using hard to identify undocumented random domains in long redirect chains, obfuscating links etc etc.

I can remember back when most NZ tradies were happy with a Mitsubishi L300 or Toyota Hiace van that were smaller than a Ford Transit.

Yeah. As I mentioned in another comment, as someone who studied Civil Engineering (ages ago) maybe most EEs never learn enough hydraulics to know the analogy probably goes further than they realize - ie much further than just kids level stu

Heh, I used electrical circuit analogies when learning hydraulics for pipe networks in Civil Engineering. I struggled much less than the other students who didn't know any basic electrical stuff from physics classes.

CSS1 circa 1996 was (practically) styling only. It's main purpose was decluttering HTML of all the font tags etc. CSS2 included limited layout, but support in popular broswers lagged for so long that practically nobody learned the stan

I can't spot any obvious bugs in your code. Although I would suggest adding a space after the exclamation point and a semi colon after the end of the string for a better screen filling UX.

My systemd grumpiness was mostly due to only just (nearly) finishing an upstart migration. The thought of another one so soon after wasn't fun, even if I liked some of the new features. Those days are over though, and I'm glad the
