The linked article is in the Opinion section, so no, it does not necessarily reflect the stance of the NYT and accusations of hypocrisy are therefore unfounded in this case.

Nukes have been used in anger only twice in history and it wasn't over a declaration of independence. They're really not very useful as an offensive weapon. If (say) Tibet declared independence, there is absolutely no chance that

I don't get it. How is a word like "civilization" less elitist / more pragmatic than "civilisation"? How is that a revolution? Is there any evidence that these minor spelling difference had an effect on the suc

It is false that there are "exactly ZERO transfers" in the EU. Sadly for Italy however, it is a net contributor of about 5 billion a year: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budget_of_the_European_Union#E...

I think your comment misrepresents the article. A quote: "That Hardin’s tragedy was advanced as part of a white nationalist project should not automatically condemn its merits. But the facts are not on Hardin’s side. [...] [E]arly past

It's absurd to say that Wikipedia has an "insanely high barrier to entry". You click "Edit" and that's it - you don't even have to create an account. It's hard to imagine a lower barrier to entry. Of

That argument also applies to any democracy (or indeed any polity larger than a household): why should the people in my town have a say over the laws in the adjacent town?

These are pretty weak arguments to get rid of the EU. In many democracies, the government has the power to propose legislation. And what democracy doesn't have backroom deals?

Democracy does not mean that you always get what you want. A majority in parliament and the council were in favor of this law, so you can't say it's undemocratic.
