It always bugged me thats considered part of reproducibility. That's 100% controllable and deterministic.

Compilers haven't been built with that as a condition, so this isn't true. It's not true in practical code either, people like to stick in timestamps. It's not ever true on windows, unless you use the fairly recent PE

Nope, loads of build tools were never built with reproducibility in mind. Look at windows. Even if you fix the compiler and linker, you still non-reproducibility by design, the PE header contains a timestamp. People also like to stick non-r

My point is that this isn't the free market malfunctioning. This is the entirely logical outcome of capitalism. What you (and I) are asking for is more regulation to prevent these outcomes.

A way that works for everyone? Sure. Amazon comes in. They don't get any tax breaks. They do business and make money and pay taxes. NY actually uses those taxes for things people need.

I'd put the Jaguar I-Pace as more of a Tesla killer than pretty much anything else that has come out. Even then, you don't see a Jaguar that often. If BMW comes out with a luxury sedan electric car that would be a tesla killer.
