Windows support is still under development, yes? https://crystal-lang.org/install/on_windows/ I'll stick with Nim then, it's Windows support is much better. Of course for backend dev, Linux is usually #1

Swift is different niche, though. Rust, Go, Nim, D etc can be used for writing Mac, Linux, Windows apps. Swift is practically limited on MacOs & iOS.

I know Photoshop is widely used by pro photographers. But for us hobbyists, perhaps Gimp is sufficient. Maybe there are some Photoshop features that are not implemented in Gimp, but hey we don't need those anyway.

I still write Java codes... for Android, though. When were the last time I code in Swing/JavaFX? 4 or 5 years ago, perhaps. The 3rd party libs available for Delphi/FPC are more than enough for my needs.

I don't write desktop apps these days... but if I have to, my #1 choice is easily Pascal + Lazarus. For non-GUI apps, sure probably Nim, Rust or Go.

Perhaps the author only use Windows? It doesn't use any cross-platform library like Qt, wxWidgets, etc. Just good old Windows API.

+1. For practical use, Introduction to Algorithms may be a overall better reference. Probably TAOCP is only useful if you are doing CS research, where heavy mathematical analysis is often needed.

I think the key is "be intentional". So if you take photos of old gas stations or buildings or whatever, the reason is because... say.. you are working on a documentary project. Or a photo book/essay. BTW, I still also shoot

At least for writing cross platform desktop apps, I think nothing beats Lazarus/FPC. One codebase that works on Windows, Linux, macOS. And not tied to JVM/Electron etc. There are some web frameworks in Pascal like Fano or Brooke.

AFAIK Niklaus Wirth didn't stop with Pascal. He also worked on Modula, Oberon, etc. Wonder why those languages didn't get industry/FOSS adoption as much as Pascal did?

From a practical standpoint, compiler dev job is very nice-ish, not typically in high demand, like developing mobile or web apps. But that's what us, software developers, relied to. No compiler means no app. Which means some folks gott
