Super nitpicky, but @dang can we please update the title? "Pokemon" is both singular and plural, nobody ever says "Pokemons". It's just the Pokemon nerd in me... the title feels so wrong.

Strongly disagree with this. Straws have a benefit over picking up a cup and sipping. A sip takes extra time and effort. If you have a lot of ice in the cup, it could get in the way of a sip. More importantly, straws can reduce spills, and

No, since you are forgetting to take into account the probability of an outcome/risk analysis. The probability of the local police being used against your city is so low, that the benefits are deemed to outweigh the risks. On the other

This is very insightful. I've seen too many employees in big tech continue to shill their products and services because it helps their CEO or it helps their immediate team -- without thinking about who is being hurt (e.g. end users con

I wish this attitude was more prevalent. The most dangerous thing we can do is turn a non-partisan issue into a partisan one. As soon as it becomes about right vs. left, you have an army of people on Twitter, etc. who are ready to mindlessl

Makes sense. It seems like it would be best to create a fault tolerant society and have multiple forms of energy production instead of going all in on a single one. This can be done in an eco-friendly way, too. I don't think there will

Coils have poor heat distribution and make it extremely hard to control the temperature at any given time.

You can't successfully ban X and replace it with Y if Y does not have feature parity with X. Gas stoves are almost always better for cooking; they give you a more even heat distribution and it is easier to control the amount of heat th

Unrelated, but Bitcoin cannot be banned without infringing on human rights. Bitcoin is a collectively enforced source of truth, like a bunch of people gathering together and engaging in this ledger protocol with pieces of paper and ink, bei

Oh man this is extremely bad news. The highway should not get to decide which color cars are allowed through. Google et al, are only going to make the internet's underground railroad larger. Users aren't supposed to be slaves to t

To add to the conspiracy, what if Google really does have a bin of pet products laying around and whips them out on social media at just the right time? Right now, as of me posting this comment, this[0] is one of the top posts on HN. Google

I mean you can just put a seat on a hoverboard, while playing the pedals like a piano... I think this study is not the end of hoverboards, lol. "Standing vs. sitting" is a pretty easy problem to fix when it comes to bikes, hoverbo

Innovation can take place so long as the right people are getting their deserved royalties. In this case, anyone whose code was used in the training set should get a lifetime royalty.

How is that relevant here? We're talking about a two dimensional vector space (hence "east", "north").

True! So I wonder how this works for above-ground pipes. If the water is sitting in some U-pipe would it not just leak out because its velocity is zero? Or are the holes so small that the σ > p even at rest?

12m east / 3m north does not make any sense, since vector division is undefined. You might be thinking about the derivative which has no units in this case.

Is this making use of Bernoulli's principle to avoid busted pipes? Small holes in the pipe when water is running would not leak since σ > p for high speeds and small area. When water is not running, the water leaks out due to increa
