Last time the US was a net oil exporter was in the 70s, in fact it became an importer when the oil crisis. It has never regained that status since then.

I am comparing high speed rail to conventional rail. High speed tickets are at least twice as much. The price of a bus is similar to the conventional train which is disappearing leaving the bus as the only cheap alternative. You are probabl

I know it sounds dangerous, but, haven't anyone thought of electrifying by just using the two rails as conductors, one rail per pole? So no need of third rail or catenary. I suppose the expense would be isolating all the axels! This

Fast yes, cheap not at all. Conventional (not high speed) trains in Spain are cheap, but there are fewer and fewer of those. If you want to travel cheaply you mostly have to take a bus. Most trains here are now only for the rich.

Only if you jumped in the field of vision of the car. Drivers are supposed to be able to stop within that field of vision. Driving faster than that is unsafe. If you jaywalk but you are not in anybody's field of vision and still get hi

Not CPUwise. But they have increased the number of CPUs available and that's where python has problems because of the GIL. Fortunately the multiprocessing library seems like a good workaround to the GIL issue.

Of course it does. Economic growth always means growth in energy consumption even if it is more brains thinking, brains need food (i.e. energy).

No, what is good for a public health perspective is to avoid collisions (and falls which is the #1 accident with bikes). It is quite easy to avoid car-bike collisions, in fact car drivers are far more predictable than ignorant cyclists. Of

How old do you think I am? What do you mean by keeping up with traffic? when I go uphill I do not ride as fast as cars by all means, that doesn't mean I can not use the road. If a faster driver comes behind me he either: 1. slows down

I do, I have been driving my bicycle to work for 12 years now. Not only I prefer regular roads, which are much better, whenever there is a segregated lane I avoid it. It is very obvious what segregation is for when you get hostile behavior

There will still be bike-bike collisions, also exclusive roads for bicycles are usually of low quality not up to engineering standards for roads, they will be full of dirt, unmaintained, with potholes. Most bicycle accidents are not even co

You really can't compare the US and Denmark, you should pick a location and compare before and after segregation. Did it improve safety? There were plenty of bicycle trips in Denmark before cyclists were kicked off the roads for the co

I worked at a company where we built surveillance video recorders. We used GNU/Linux as the OS in the video recorder and we didn't have anywhere in the docs saying so. I got lured in by the fact that it was a Linux company (so yes
