<opinion> I'd prefer the JVM/CLR-Stacks fading away alltogether. An exhaustive Toolchain like Java has + a fairly superior IDE like Visual Studio, both targeted especially for the JS-Stack, and everyone wins. If there is eno

I tend to disagree. As of today, Javascript is the least common denominator of all the advanced web technologies. If you know JS fairly well, you're able to understand nearly everything under the hood if you want to. If you have CLR&#x

How about just sniff the user-agent and deliver perfectly rendered views/fragments of your SPA through a serverside PhantomJS process to crawlers? If you used backbone routing properly this shouldn't be a problem. Or, use one of t

You can almost completely substitute "python" with "ruby" here. (not sure about the amiga part, though). Or, how about Javascript? Every common desktop, smartphone, tablet and so on has at least one JS runtime preinstall

I don't know about stripe compatibility, but... For the easy-to-learn part: absolutely use node.js. And just use take the learning curve of a few days to look at some more advanced frameworks instead of bare-metal node.js. I highly rec

I work with ruby/rails, node.js/coffeescript, python, scala and some other stuff on a daily basis on my day job. Thanks to MSDN-AA, i had to work with the complete Microsoft-Stack at University the last year, given every single t

I'd add that node.js is even a good enough tool for heavy computation. Do not crunch the numbers in the main event loop, but spawn a worker-cluster and you're fine. Do not forget that the raw speed of the V8 (not to mention C++ mo

I faced recently scaling/refactoring problems due to way too large models and some kind of callback-hell baked in. instead of just "drag-n-drop" model code to concerns/mixins/..., have a look at https://g

Since Ruby and Rails are completely open sourced, there are no backdoors involved.... But every now and then some critrical bugs occur. After all the fun we had with the NSA lately, and the stories of eg. skype calling home with your (a

Possible. But since JS is already running on every desktop, smartphone, tablet and now on the server, why bother with less spread ecosystems? And, given that in some places already reaches half the performance of native code (which is incre

With "Javascript" i mean meta-languages that compile to javascript, too. I prefer coffee, but typescript may be fine, too.

For intellectual fun and profit, there is an increasing number of "meta"-languages out there which compile to javascript. See Coffeescript and Livescript for Example.

I think that it's a save bet to say: rails has no advantages any longer. You'll find similar features in nearly every common "web-language" and their range of frameworks today. The only difference is the language itself,
