Have a look at the phoenix framework, written in elixir. While there aren't that many drag'n'drop solutions available than in meteor, everything is rock solid, fast and fault tolerant. Oh, and it is very familiar for rails

Try Elixir, it runs on the ErlangVM and has a much nicer syntax, plus metaprogramming through Lisp-style macros, while preserving every feature that makes erlang great. https://pragprog.com/book/elixir/programming-

Of course you can be productive on an iPad, no question. I have a keyboard-case for it, so writing a few letters or stuff like that is fairly straightforward and without much hassle. It comes down on what "producing" means for y

My iPad (air 2) works for me as the perfect "consumption" device wherever I are. Reading blogs, kindle app for books (prefer it to the old kindle device by far), twitter, facebook, mails, and so on. Also a few games like fallout s

(Backend) Ruby/Rails: Elixir/Phoenix seems to be the next evolutionary step (functional, websockets, parallel, concurrent, fast). It's been awesome so far. (Backend) Node.js: For extremely rapid prototyping Meteor.js remains

Seems that there are only massive benefits to use a blocker. And a good chunk of the most valuable audience will be gone in a matter of a few weeks... Whatever hurts the advertising industry increases the pressure to find real business mo

I used both, Elixir/Erlang and Erlang/Elixir. And Both variants exactly one time. The only small preference is that I used the Elixir/Erlang variant as the first one, but hey, one could argue that coming from Go/Node, el

Agreed, Rust is superior to Go in almost any way. Especially when stuff becomes more than a 30-lines-snippet, Rust shines.

The point of erlang isn't beating micro benchmarks. Everyone and his dog knows that other techs have better performance. The ease of scaling across machines, fault tolerance and low latency variation are more typical selling points

When you come from a legacy ball of mud in written in any language, a rewrite alone brings loads of benefits if done properly. In most cases, the evented design of node requires some re-thinking and forbids simple copy-paste of the old stuf

The best "framework" node.js has to offer is Meteor. Nothing beats Meteor for rapid prototyping so far. Node was the next big thing a few years ago, I was an evangelist by myself. Today, drawbacks and backlashes appear more and mo
