Regulatory capture and lobbyists win again. Corruption at its finest. Other countries like Norway have much simpler tax systems that pre-compute the amount for taxpayers.

I'm about to switch from Spectrum to GVEC, a regional ISP and utility co-op started by farmers. It's about as good as Google Fiber but much more widely-available here, and doesn't give more money to a megacorp.

Objective-C is a C superset, while Objective-C++ is a C++ superset, where C++ is a mostly C superset. You're not really buying anything using Objective-C++ by adding another form of OOP, except perhaps for interop with C++.

I was recently watching a Dan Gelbart video where he mentioned hydrogen-induced cracking of steel (HTHA) discovery during the development and scaling-up of the Haber-Bosch process.

Fusion power will arrive first. And, it will be needed to power the Cambrian explosion of datacenters just for weak AI. I could be wrong but AGI maybe a cold fusion or flying cars boondoggle: chasing a dream that no one needs, costs too muc

To build assembly lines, one has to first make custom tools, jigs, and parts and apply processes to them that cannot just be 3D printed in plastic or metal or FDM'ed. The main show-stopper to them is the lack of working knowledge about

US corporations benefit today from slave labor by people housed in for-profit prisons where there are incentives to over-prosecute brown and poor people. These include, but aren't limited to: - Aramark - Avis - IBM - JCPenney - Kmart -

Yup. I'd say around 15% of very severe incidents are ever announced publicly. In most cases, the default is cover-up and hope no one finds out. To anyone who thinks a libertarian/anarcho-capitalist/Network States "utopia

The Egghead Software store I worked at always played the same CD on loop in a lock box. It was a passionless rendition of The Four Seasons by Vivaldi.

Nope. Philip Mason debunked #TeamTrees as yet another, completely pointless MrBeast vibe cause. Better off with bio-CSS using GMO kelp or algae, e.g., biomass that grows faster and doesn't rot or burn.

Possibly. Being too closely related to MPP+, paraquat should be banned. As an unrelated example of residues in non-organic crops: oats are typically sprayed with glyphosate to speed drying them simply to reduce the amount of fuel needed to

Proper, dependency-aware build caching makes or breaks a build system. Meta's buck2 builds tend to be crazy fast because of this and it can also do synthetic checkouts with arc/"hg" via eden.

by anon6362 2y ago
https://github.com/facebook/sapling/tree/main/eden I'm still unsure if a complete, viable eden solution was released with all of its necessary components.

by anon6362 2y ago
I miss Meta's arc + buck2 + eden + "hg" + "phabricator" + testing infrastructure that does a lot of acceleration of builds, testing, and landing commits without rebasing.

by anon6362 2y ago
That's the rub. It provides scalability for very large organization, of which, there are few. It's similar to running OpenStack. Meta also has some projects like this, such as buck2 which lacks the really good virtual FS accelerat
