Apple's and Google's efforts are for more privacy preserving than ANY goverment efforts would ever be. Speaking as someone who has worked with govt. Seriously, this care around privacy DOES NOT EXIST with govt agencies.

I will never touch / install contact tracing if it can be backdoored into global surveilance. Apple has built a reputation for at least trying to preserve some user privacy. Their current proposal keeps it simple, your privacy is prese

I have configured SIP to avoid some of the client / server model. You can do that on a local network you can control, and if you can get your firewall to play or can expose a SIP endpoint to the public internet directly you can cut a f

The idea that RIPT will be phone endpoint to phone endpoint for media is ridiculous which means latency will go up. I hope I misread the spec! Because phones are usually double natted / double firewalled the vonages / ringcentral

My big complaint with SIP is latency - we should be able to get latency way down and call pleasure is enhanced significantly with low latency - how does this help

Droplets through the air (that land on the second parties nose or mouth) is not what Hopkins is talking about. The virus is in respiratory droplets. If you sneeze on something its contaminated. If you touch your nose or mouth and touch some

The meme that HIPPA requires e2e is so ridiculous - it is pretty clear that very few people actually deal with HIPPA stuff. Zoom (if you need HIPPA) can set you up with it - but you WILL lose a bunch of features (zoom by default has feature

Droplets through the air is not primary vector - this is not aerosolized well like measels, the drops fall to the ground -> 6 foot rule is designed to avoid most droplets. "In an adjusted analysis of compliant subjects, masks as a g

False - hand to nose mouth contact is THE primary vector for this illness - masks are very effective in reducing this. Please stop spreading misinformation as it could lead to deaths.

Definitely not - instead of emphasizing production the US has had this horrible no mask message - likely resulting in deaths

Yes - there is a great opportunity for a new type / class of astronomy based in space. That should be the focus going forward. If all these astronomers can do is (usually incorrectly) say that land based astronomy can no longer happen

To be specific, a project like the TMT started in 2003 or so (17 years ago) and was a follow-up to 3 other projects that had been going on for a while. So we are talking 20 - 25 years of funding to get to one telescope. Very cool, but this

I hope this group of astronomers is entirely defunded - zero them out. Start fresh with a group based on satellite observations. The increased access to space that SpaceX represents will be a boon to this new group. If you look at the costs
