Your point is taken, but I think it's kind of clear Facebook's only strategies are "lie" and "copy/buy everyone else"

Don't you love going to Instagram and having it refuse to show you pictures without logging in? I sure do

Literally all Zuckerberg has to do is not be the kind of person he is... his product itself did achieve success in that a huge number of people are using it, but then he had to prove himself to have no ethical standards

I understand this is only tangentially related, but you can understand with the background of some of the medical profession, that some people are anti-vax (with respect to covid-19). To be clear, I'm very pro-vax - but yeah

No, but HN is the center for articles on pretty much everything, including "notable celebrity dies". It's ridiculous to apply the usual (tired) trope of HN of "how is this relevant"

"This isn't relevant to me therefore it isn't relevant to the entire internet"

Anti-Zuckerberg specific legislation might be good to start looking into, I think. Say what you will about "but corporate culture". Zuck is a known manipulator and liar and he has to be stopped before he does anything else that ha

Facebook if antitrust actually does its job properly (notably, give back Whatsapp to Brian Acton and Jan Koum, don't require a log-in to view public Instagram photos, and don't tie the Oculus to Facebook accounts)

B-b-b-b-b-but I've been told that some people don't look at likes/dislikes and that makes it ok! Oh well, I'm sure some product manager got their raise for removing such a useless feature

> - doublequotes actually work unlike in Google and DDG This drives me nuts . If you're going to have a competitor to Google (ddg) at least give me proper functionality to refine my searches

For every legitimate article that gets posted on HN you can guarantee someone comes along and says "I don't understand what this is all about". Come on, read.

To the extent they stay out of "editing" the newsfeed, sure. When they algorithmically (and silently) promote or demote certain things, all bets are off

Hacker News in absolutely no way shape or form has an algorithmic system on the same level Facebook has, it is manifestly a bad analogy

Zuckerberg by all accounts bullied Kevin Systrom out of the company and now it prompts you to sign in when trying to browse photos; doesn't seem independant

Yes, you're very clever by being the 900th person to be "witty" like this. You know what they meant.

The moderation would be one thing if there could be an argument that the platform generally acts in good faith, but they don't. They seem to both have the Google problem that you absolutely can not reach anyone if you get banned by a

I don't think it's fair to place the blame on consumers when WA/IG were bought as competition killing moves (and it's hard for the average person to see that they are the same)

To me, the question would be if it's general job dissatisfaction or something people don't like in Facebook itself? It's true every company has problem points. But when you have someone like Zuck who lies constantly, buys up

I would love if the encryption (either real time or backups) in Whatsapp was actually 'legit' - I mean, Facebook arguably bought it to kill competition

According to every ethical standard there is. Zuckerberg bullied the Instagram and Whatsapp founders out of the company and now even Carmack is openly going against this ridiculous Metaverse idea

Zuckerberg has always proven himself to be jealous and to go on the warpath with anyone who disagrees with him, you can see that in Instagram and Whatsapp - whether the metaverse is a good idea or not I absolutely don't want he or Face
