Any open source language. If you are new to programming you can start with easy to learn language like Python. If you have programming experience then go for Clojure. In open source world there are so many options, so it is better to keep l

Everyone has already mentioned the basics. What I would suggest that check whether he or she can read some existing code and understand it and how quickly then can do it. I just hate it when someone asks me give KT (knowledge transfer) of s

It is unfortunate that we have designers and developers as separate people. Hire someone who is good at both i.e probably a hacker. Yeah... but this species is very hard to find :)

For me, Hackers are great thinkers and programming is just one aspect of being hacker. A hacker may think about anything that is interesting and makes him curious. If you don't have curiosity then you cannot be a real hacker.

For the same reasons that you mentioned about religious duties I have preferred to follow a simple and yet the most important religion which I call as "Humanity". It is very simple to follow, it is global and if the whole world starts to fo

Hmmm .. in imperative you start from one step and keep on thinking of next step and so on until you reach solution. This is more like left brain. In FP you break down the whole problem into parts but at the same time you also look at the ov

"Next version of JavaScript to add class concept" = Lets make JavaScript sucks like Java/C#/<other class based> programming languages works. OOP is anyway a pathetic way to program and the "Class" based OOP is much more worse.

How ironic is that when someone ask you to write a program that put some text ob screen and you are unfortunately using C#/Java or similar languages, your code comes out something as : public class main { public static void main(string[

Hmmm.. the "way to think" doesn't change as that would be like changing the way human brain works. Still some programming languages allows you to think more abstractly than others. For ex: You see a problem and in few mins you come up with

Which programming language you learn and use doesn't matter? Really ?? It doesn't matter for most people because they only know C/C++/C#/Java/JavaScript/Python and other similar language as they all provide same kind of "thinking technique"
