I find it charming that to distinguish Fil-C from the K&R language they use the term 'Yolo-C'. I have never used inline asm before, I actually didn't realise how much behaviour it's specifying! (When I've needed

This is very cool! I've wanted to do something like this for Sydney but never got around to it. Are you scraping your data sources or building them yourself?

I think you might be right, that rings a bell. There's an item on the front page about this right now, and I'm guilty as charged - I don't understand CORS at all https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48614844

It's probably out of scope for you, but I've used the 'vtfunc' module [0] for a similar purpose actually. [0] https://github.com/coleifer/sqlite-vtfunc

Interesting idea, I know there's the fsdir [0] table-valued function / module that allows loading from disk, so it should be possible to modify that or hard-code base list of paths or something [0] https://sqlite.org&#x

DuckDb makes so much of my life easier, though I've never used it for large problems. The ability to run `select * from 'data.json'` is just lovely. The fact that it's also a powerhouse is so impressive, I'd usually

When I've needed something like this in the past I've spun up simple HTML pages and used the json endpoint that all datasette instances come with [0]. I like this new pattern much better, as it keeps your app and data in one place

How do you manage the situation socially? I had a very important document with a very expensive professional booked for about 10 minutes. No way I could actually read it in that time - what would you do?

Same, except I have family that work in healthcare and so _very occasionally_ they'll call me from a private number, and it'll be important. I still don't answer them, but I get to enjoy a tiny bit of stress every time I see

As counter measure to text scams the Australian government (actually ACMA which I think is the Au version of the FCC) has introduced a national register of Sender Ids, which comes in to effect on the 1st of July. It requires providers to ma

I really enjoy making Python faster. I feel like the sweet spot for me is proving a concept with the dumbest possible implementation to show that something would work, and then using that as a comparison implementation to prove that later i

I feel like scapy is a bit of a special case though. It's unusually dynamic because it allows kind of arbitrarily crazy things. I feel like it's maily best for prototyping. I've had 1000x speedups (100s of milliseconds to doz

I wish I could cure my sea sickness. The only thing that's worked is being on a boat more often (which isn't possible for me at the moment), and getting more sleep. The anti-nausea tablets unfortunately put me to sleep and they do

I think calling these people 'hacks' is not quite the right word. They're very good at what they do, it's just a lot of people don't like or don't value what they do. I actually have a fair bit of respect for t
