The story of how this happened is quite interesting. CGP Grey did a video about how it evolved [0]. I'm not American so I can't judge how likely it is to ever change because it seems to be politically radioactive to propose a gove

I always go to threadreaderapp. In this case it's https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1373266475230789633.html Edit to add: In this case I'd recommend wikipedia, the thread is quite short and light on details

Ok so this is a union specific to Medium. What I'm not understanding is can't you have a union anyway? Why does it need to be a majority/some threshold?

This is probably demonstrating my ignorance, but what does it mean to 'fail to unionize'? Does it mean that they were trying to create a new union but not enough people joined? Typically in Australia people join unions related to

A fantastic podcast series! As a non-American I don't think I understand the zeitgeist about Appalachia, but I was touched by the whole story.

There were also some exemptions for the need for social security numbers so it's possible they could need one at some point. (from memory this only applies to grandfather in groups like the Amish who are also required to provide their

What an interesting thing! This relies on taking corpuses (corpii?) of a fixed length, concatenating the unknown string and compressing the lot. The one that compresses better is likely to be the one that is the same language. I have an int

I find that the process of creating and curating the cards is as much (if not more) important than the cards themselves. My practice with anki then has some ''meat' to hang my memory off.

In one of his talks Richard Hipp actually mentioned off-hand that some storage devices allegedly use SQLite under the hood as their storage controller, with the firmware bridging the gap. (I can't find the video, but his slides are her

I am really curious about both sides of your comment, but I don't know where to start asking. How do you write parametrized SQL in a spreadsheet? And what is wrong with our data models? What even _are_ our data models?

Looking at this from a performance point of view, I think this could be useful with the addition of some tracing capability. What I mean is, reducing the size of a barely-used struct isn't worth the effort, but reduction of a key struc
