I really enjoyed this. It's always surprising how focussing on a teeny tiny part of a topic can clarify so much around it. There's so much complexity in and around compilers, it's very intimidating

It seems that every case of endometriosis comes with a horror story of years, if not decades, of being ignored or not being taken seriously

From memory I believe the reason he got the visit was because he made a joke about creating a fusion reactor - something like "until I get my fusion reactor running I'll need to use the sun"

I had a similar experience with static electricity. The explanation was something like 'When you rub wool on a glass rod you develop a charge between them'. Ok, so.... why? And why does the charge develop with one polarity and not

I really like the idea of converting this from a problem of quality to a problem of quantity! I'm sure that in amongst a sea of terrible ideas you're bound to stumble upon some good ones, even if by accident

This is something I noticed when I was in the US - It seemed that emergency vehicles leave their sirens on the whole time. Here in Aus they'll leave them off and only turn them on when coming up to an intersection that they don't

Oh I should have added this is in Australia. And yes you can move on, but you're still in an unnecessary position (looking for work while not employed) through no fault of your own.

They'll also strip your contact details so that the company can't reach out to you directly. Any recruiter who trusts their clients so little is probably not worth your time, however

MDN documentation and Sqlite documentation stand out to me as some of the best around. The Cloudflare how-tos would be up there, if you stretch the definition of documentation

I've been sprung with these before. Usually trivial, unenforceable issues, but annoying none the less. The worst was I once even had a background check _after_ accepting and signing. Nothing came up, but that could have left me with no

At a previous employer we were asked to do 'anonymous' Glassdoor reviews. Which they scheduled for us to do so that there wouldn't be a glut of reviews. I just quietly did nothing at all and left shortly after.
