Just for what it's worth in case anyone's considering not trying Vimium on this basis, you can disable Vimium for selected sites by clicking on the V logo next to the navigation bar. Also FWIW, but I find Vimium convenient just for j, k, J,

I hope someone works out who is obliged to provide GPL Linux source code (CW network? Entertainment Weekly?), so they can run their own OS on their throwaway adphone. Has to be something they can be made into that's more useful than scrap.

Have you ever worked with X10? It's a standard finalised in 1975, and this shows. Take a look under "Commands getting lost", "Relatively slow", "Limited functionality", "Interference and lack of encryption" for a quick overview: https://en

I'd be generally more worried about the power supply components. There's a tiny switchmode supply in there, which means capacitors. Which would be my main concern for early failures, I'd think far earlier than the LED under normal condition

Actually the Allwinner A10 is pretty well documented by the vendor and by the community, has a bunch of standard linux distributions running already. Much better than most ARM SoCs in the cheap Android tablet market. AFAIK the one exception

One I learned for the first time the other day is 'paste'. Good for people like me who never fully grokked awk, it joins lines from separate files into a single file. Say you have two files, one with lines of numbers: 1 2 3 ... a

Very nice, thank you! Didn't mean to be too cruel about it, it's just that with a new 3d printer announced almost every day I always look to see what the achievable print quality is like. It's a great project you're working on, I'm sure man

My initial reaction was this might be a hoax, or at least vapourware, on account of the lack of any print pictures or videos, just the very nice glossy shots of the machine sitting idle. However I did find one video: http://www.youtube.com

From the spec: If $XDG_DATA_HOME is either not set or empty, a default equal to $HOME/.local/share should be used. Similarly there's a default (.config/) defined for XDG_CONFIG_HOME. So the fallback is well-defined rather than "whatever y

If you believe http://www.quora.com/How-large-is-Facebooks-codebase ... then 2011 numbers are a google search away. "Ford’s 2005 models contain between two and three million lines of code. Current 2007/2008 vehicles have an average of six

I found this counter-intuitive as well, for the little it's worth. My intuition was "Wow, there's a lot of lines on this graph. I'll clear everything off and then add things one at a time to see how they compare. Click, click, click wait,

You're thinking of AGPL for requiring source distribution when offering a service over a network. IANAL but I don't believe GPLv3 changes anything over GPLv2 in this case, although it does tighten up some loopholes in v2 over what does and

Whether "it's expensive" depends entirely on the market. There are markets (developing countries, education) where tripling the total cost of the setup, compared to using a monitor you already have, is significant.

Out of interest, what does it cost to host one of these in a colo rack? I was thinking about it as an alternative to my VPS. (Apologies if you said this in blog post already, it's currently unavailable.)

Thanks, fixed typo in the other link. The Melee boards are available to ship now from Aliexpress vendors, so you'd have it in your hands sooner than the apc.io (July predicted ship date) or the Pi (still filling backorders.)

Alongside the obvious comparisons to Raspberry Pi, it's worth looking at Allwinner A10 based devices like the Mele A1000: http://rhombus-tech.net/allwinner_a10/hacking_the_mele_a1000... Same price bracket, faster Cortex A8 based processor

I agree with your comment entirely (esp. the PC/ARM bit.) Also, the WM8750 is an ARM11 not a Cortex A8 or better, so it's a good bit slower than most phones running ICS. I don't think its GPU credentials are cutting edge either. So in terms

You're entirely right, but Wondermedia/VIA actually have a moderately good history with their GPL source for ARM system-on-a-chips. Although most end vendors of devices using the WM8xxx line of chips are GPL violators (direct-from-China bus
