If I was trying to find a good Perl programmer, I would try to read some of their code before asking a single question. If I could read it, that's a good first step. Because you can know the answers to all of those questions and still write

Although I know it's not at all -literally- why they are used (not to mention that they may not work), these tests seem to say something to me about our understanding of depression, right there.

There was never much of a PlayStation One homebrew or Linux scene though, was there? So it'd be hard to argue that the PS1 device had any useful purpose other than piracy. Unlike with PS2&3, where for a while there Sony pretty much endo

Another thought, I wonder if Google initially anticipated the amount of makeover work that OEMs would put into Android. Does anyone know how hard/easy the current presentation layer makes customisation? If they released a more easily &

I guess there might be some credibility in the suggestion that if the current stock of OEM makeovers usually make an OK interface slightly worse, they would make a very good interface only slightly less very good.

One thing Meld cannot easily do (unless it's changed very recently) is manually align blocks of text when autoalignment fails. I recommend Diffuse for that, and also for three-way merging: http://diffuse.sourceforge.net/ I do join in reco

One more happy dumb phone user here. In September I switched back after two years with an iPhone, and I do not regret it one bit. ( http://projectgus.com/2010/09/my-no-iphone-no-smartphone-exp... )

Thanks for the great explanation. I must say that it sounds great Youtube's culture allows features to be "turned down... code deleted a couple weeks later". You don't always get that.

Are you at liberty to say why the Erlang thing got replaced? (Erlang & Python are my two favourite languages to use, but there are not that many problems I would interchange between them.)

I think it's a double-edged sword. I've both written and read code in non-functional languages where the "easy" way of doing it is thrown aside for the "cool functional" way of doing it. Leading to code which was more fun to write, looks co

OK. Except, 'CouchOne Mobile for Android' seems to come as a complete package with Android SDK bindings. As you'd expect, no Erlang required/mentioned. I'd be interested to know if an Erlang VM is actually included in the CouchOne for Andro

I <3 Erlang and this seems like a cool idea and all, but I'm struggling to think of the exact use anyone is likely to put it to. If you want to do Android UI, I'm sure JInterface will compile against Dalvik but it's also fairly dated an

I'm confused. A few years ago, the perceived wisdom was that dedicated flash filesystems like yaffs2/jffs are better (performance & longevity-wise) for running on flash devices than more general block filesystems like ext4/3/2. What am

Nevertheless, there were a lot of dramas when ext4 first came across to the mainstream Linux distros (as per the extra reading links in the blog post.) So I can see why Google want to make it perfectly clear that this is happening.

I hate to be a pedant, but this case concerns a copyright troll, not a patent troll. The distinction between the two is well worth acknowledging. However, I agree with everything you've said about intellectual property trolling, in general.
