If so, that's a tough problem. Distrusting your 'users' (content providers) and double-checking them is likely to generate a fair bit of hostility, especially for a non-opt-in service.

That's a really great idea. We need more embedding of languages other than C. And I say that as a huge fan of C. I'm even still using it for non-work projects :-)

Well, sure. They caused the problem. The answer for users is "don't trust Google with your information, and get as much of it out of Google's control as you can, even though you don't know how much there is and can't take some of it back

He mentions it (very) briefly with the Audi example. But yeah, this is a bit terrifying. I hadn't thought about this trick before now, and I don't see how you could easily turn it off...

I agree -- for software engineers, programming is a popular way to procrastinate. Refactoring doubly so :-) Whereas, for somebody comfortable with selling and networking but uncomfortable making or improving products, the networking and se

24 Hour Fitness also has huge, huge disparities. I paid too much initially for a year in advance, but I now have a $50/yr membership forever, and my wife has $25/yr (!) because her timing was even better. But the base rate is what, $150 to

The linked blog post is certainly quite acceptable, grammatically. Different audiences have different reactions to bad grammar. Financial professionals are put off by it, while teenagers expect it. Are you building ETrade, or MySpace? Fo

Point 3 is phrased well in the title, but I'm kind of annoyed at the implication that you should intentionally obscure your URLs. I can see why he makes that point, and I see the benefit, but I also like URLs that make sense when I'm cutti

I continue to be amazed that big companies don't do this. The first big tech company to figure out how to successfully do mini-startups within the company (with slightly less risk and slightly less reward for the engineers involved) will s

Some of it's sampling bias. The stuff from your day that is still around was better. You've forgotten the cheap crap that fell apart long since.

"Perverseverance." That makes an excellent portmanteau of "perverse" and "perseverance." I may have to start using that, though not especially for Malcolm Gladwell.

The grayscale one will give you fits when/if you need to use cheap printing in black and white. Similarly, the ones with a lot of fiddly detail will be harder to render well on paper.

We used Coverity at ACCESS (who make ALP and the First Else, neither of which you've heard of). If you're using C and/or C++, it's a truly amazing tool, and chases down some very weird bugs. As our upgrade method, we basically enabled serio

They can't take over your house painting business, because that's outside-of-work labor, which they don't own under that clause (some businesses do forbid side gigs for money). But if you patented something related to house painting, they

Geeze, is 3.5 months a typical current or California hiring period??? Nope. A week is quick for a big company (default for a startup), a month is slow. Two to three months is Google or Hewlett-Packard.
