The next step is to decompose the wealth inequality into two metrics: inequality within an age-band, and inequality due to different life stages. In Equalland, the former is zero, so all inequality is due to the latter. So, when you hear t

Do you have any designers you've worked with that you'd recommend, and have bandwidth for extra work? I'm awful at design, so I'm always on the lookout.

The article also misses the point: Where might we be if some of the 'usual celebrity dropouts' hadn't dropped out? I don't think the article misses the point. He never says Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg should never have dropped out.

md5 is a hash function, and hash functions are designed to have two properties: 1) they are hiding . You (theoretically) can't reverse the function by any method other than brute-force. 2) they are *binding. You (theoretically) can't fin

It makes sense to have both short and long-term plans. You should have 3 year plans not because you'll actually follow them to the letter, but because it'll make you think about where you want to be in 3 years. "Plans are useless but plann

Interesting that he mentioned Android, search, and GMail as services that it'd be hard to stop using. They all have easy substitutes that are arguably just as good, or at least close (iPhone, Bing, Yahoo Mail/Hotmail). The one place where

At the same time, you need some top-down direction. You can't just tell a team of thousands of engineers to go build something, and expect it all to have a unifying theme, and work well together. It works well for small teams, but breaks

Actually, HN did not switch over (at least, that comment didn't say it switched over). It says the main YC site WWW.ycombinator.com (and NOT news.ycombinator.com) switched, and that news.yc is serving just static content from slicehost.

What is this for? You can use the search API directly (it works with URLs): http://apiwiki.twitter.com/Twitter-API-Documentation If you truly want regex support, just grab a lot of tweets with the API, and filter client-side.

Yes, Google is still growing (slowly). But Bing has gained more points of market share than Google in the past six months. Not just grown faster, but actually added more users than Google has added.
