Probably. Probably unavoidable. I think I'd rather have Google doing it than Exxon. I'm excited to see how this pans out!

To those saying "a big company shaping cities is bad" - take a hard look at how American cities are shaped now and the big companies who influenced the relevant policies. You're going to find oil, car, tire, etc companies at

Very cool! Useful to keep tabs on competitors and your own sites. I'd suggest adding some kind of Stripe branding to your payment form to make it a little more trustworthy.

They want something they can't afford... that the world can't afford/sustain. In my opinion the source for this want is equal parts marketing and subsidy. We actually did decent low density non-sprawl until after WWII. Find i

I agree. America has generally forced a one-type-fits all transpo strategy - personal autos. This is causing lots of problems regardless of the fuel source of the car - oil, natural gas, or electricity from the grid or rooftop.

It's more about gov't subsidy than personal preference. I hate driving, but my car is definitely not collecting as much dust as I'd like it to. It would be smart of us to have good bike infrastructure - compared to subsidizin

Things like shame and "taking lightly" aren secondary to interest rates - a quantitative pricing of the risk. If a gov't sucks at borrowing then their rates will be higher in the future.

While impressive - it would be more impressive in my mind to see the USA embrace walking, biking, and public transit in a meaningful way - rather than fetishize the wasteful consumerism that is "ludicrous mode".
