One persons “basic workflow enforcement” requirements is another persons “shitload of options and features no one wants” :) It seems everyone has their own idea of what basic enforcement entails, and JIRA is pretty much ~20 years of trying

My personal favorite - the inability to store an empty string, instead converting it to NULL leading to null-checks in code even though the value is known to be non-null when inserted.

If your interest in my well being does not include listening to me talking about my illness for the next twenty minutes, your interest is feigned. This is what it’s all about in countries that don’t bother much with small talk, and your exa

You are seriously arguing that the threat of starving is how you want to motivate people to work for you? Sorry but I doubt European bureaucracy is what’s holding your companies back.

Yeah, having to refresh my instagram feed 2-3 times just to make sure I didn’t miss anything from my friends certainly has me engaged. But it’s the exact kind of “math-friendly refrigerator magnet junkfood” engagement GP was talking about.

No idea how command chaining could be involved in that (would love to know though!) but if somebody mistakenly takes down a production service from lack of command chaining, let's just say command chaining would probably be the least o

"Billionaire" might be a stretch but there's plenty of people in tech that wouldn't need to work at all if they didn't want to. It would surprise me if Torvalds et. al would have to wait for retirement before they d

Not sure about the point you're trying to make, but if you somehow think Starbucks is "disrupting" coffee consumption, please think again. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_coffee_c...

I just downloaded Opera for Android because of this, but no, it does not work as the old android browser did. Or do I need to adjust a setting for this somewhere?

Agreed. The "X considered harmful" meme has really got to stop. There are a couple of articles/essays in which that expression really makes sense, but they are few and far between. This one is not one of them. The ones I'

One advantage of putting it in a meta tag is that the encoding is preserved even if the document is read from elsewhere (parsed from the local filesystem, etc).

I did a side project in Play! some time ago. While it was generally OK to use, Java in Play is definitely a second class citizen compared to Scala. Most documentation (which btw is sorely lacking) concerns how to do stuff with Scala and you

So to get this straight, we should blame the KHTML devs for adding a feature after Google forked it's code? While not blaming Google for never adding the feature?

I would say ONE_TB is an improvement over 1099511627776 when it comes to "natural to reason about" numbers, but yes, defining ZERO and ONE is moronic.

Nothing odd with that. Comparing a country you are visiting to your own (or some other country you've been to) seems perfectly reasonable. Of course, if you're only complaining you probably shouldn't travel. I love a lot of
