Talk to them and then talk to the person that pays them. Have a proposed workflow and explain why it’s better/necessary for the business.

1. Y’all should always tell us your location when asking for job advice here (and probably make it easy to contact you - email in HN about field) 2. Math degree and a little experience should be enough in the current US market but again don

You have to tell us the country you’re working in so we can be more helpful but in general once you have some experience you have a much much better chance of remaining in the Industry.

Interesting that square is making this kind of large purchase. I’ve not been following them too closely but what I have noticed recently is a ton of local (SF) merchants switching from square to Toast.

Reminds me that at one point each page of the Apple Wiki Server that shipped with OS X Server back in the day used one SQLite file per page. Worked ok-ish.

I’ve only not been able to get on the phone with someone once in my entire career (OpenAI I’m still crying on the inside). I feel like there is value here for engineers if we only have to do a single tech screen to get to an on-site otherwi

This is super great for pair programming especially when one of the pairs is trying to ramp up. Hat tip to all the Pivotal Labs folks who worked on this.

Not quite the same but they are working to collocate ground stations at data centers of the big cloud providers around the world so you’ll get most of the advantages you laid out for much less complexity.

The best way to make this better is flagging if you must and not commenting like this on articles you think are off topic. The second best is not doing what I just did reminding people to just move along.

There’s also a pretty well tested cloud native buildpack that will work with heroku or just create OCI images here: https://github.com/paketo-community/rust

Yes, and we’ve been over this ground again and again, we should use it until another title gets us paid more. Please don’t ignore economic incentives when thinking something through.

The bigger companies career ladders go much higher for engineering and the public companies pay more in stock comp at those higher levels. You want to get to Staff+ at a large tech company - does not need to be FAANG. I’d prioritize more te

Pretty much every issues they are laying at the feet of our DA predates his tenure by decades. He’s got responsibility to work to improve the situation now but the previous approaches did not work any better and he’s certainly not the cause

Do we really need more office buildings? How about a mix of residential and commercial/offices.

401k is pretax. Usually you can change settings whenever you like though it usually takes a pay cycle or two to take affect. Pay yourself first (invest/save automatically) and budget with the rest. If you have goals like buying a house

No, dishwashers are not bullshit. They wash more dishes with less total effort. Our family of four runs that thing at least once a day. Had washing does not scale. They are probably not worth it if you live alone and are diligent.

One of the interesting things about this UAV is that it’s using Ardupilot which is quite advanced and flexible and one of the only autopilots (there are like two) that use a copy left license. This means we might see more hybrid drones supp

The problem with this line of thinking (besides it being an obvious tactic of rehashing without rigor a well trod argument to boost your views on substack... I wish you luck!) is it’s wrong. Governments and populations can and should walk

Windows 10 home is so annoying. If you accidentally connect it to WiFi first when setting it up and click through the wizard it won’t let you proceed/go back without a ms account unless you block the network connection at your router.
