Nobody has a clue? I don't buy it. Big things are happening in energy, biotech, health care, 3d printing, telecom, computing, and more. There is definitely a place for longer term thinking.

Old people (older than 40, say) are way under-represented in tech. Can anyone argue with this point? We need culture change, and maybe even affirmative action to force the industry to open up to oldsters. (yes, I'm in the 40+ demographic

"The VC/company relationship is really not at all like an employer/employee relationship." They can fire you, and you can't fire them. That means you are the employee, and they are the employer. If everything goes great, you'll never have

Visit scandanavia, germany, holland, britain. On the warmth/openness scale, they feel similar to America (at least to me). Go a bit farther south (belgium/france/italy/spain) and people open up more. The persians I know are warmer still.

So @Dave isn't Marc Andreesen or Larry Page. So f-ing what. The only tragic thing is that he hasn't figured out yet that work != life. I'm in a similar demographic as @Dave, live in palo alto, near his age. Had some really good successes

A car is a machine made from a bunch of parts. If you could upgrade those parts bit by bit, a car could run forever. You could look at the internet as a single machine made from a bunch of parts. Those parts are distributed all over the p

jQuery dependency is also a problem for me - I dropped jQuery and use Zepto instead for a mobile app I'm writing.

I've had great experience using Zepto, Backbone & custom styles. Was able to field a single-page app with about a dozen views - very interactive and very fast. Total app size about 25K including support libraries. Data loads asynchro

Self-driving cars are a risky technology that requires large, long-term capital investments and genuine innovations. If Google is granted a 20-year monopoly on their in-house inventions, to me that would be a fair and proper use of the pat

The best fundraising you can do is from your customers! You retain more equity and more control. And by the way, customer revenues is the only way to sustain a real business over time. Might as well get good at it early-on.

Great news. A built-in background job queue should reduce the rails learning curve - simpler to use a default option than research and test the various custom options that are available now.

Erlang is indeed impressive. But there is a big learning curve (at least for me!) and a whole new tool-set to support. It would be great if a Ruby/ZeroMQ based framework modelled on Erlang became widely adopted.
