This is a tough problem because if you asked most sites/admins if you could scrape their site, they don’t really have much motivation to say yes. For some it feels like you are stealing their hard work. For others they don’t want to pa

It’s more like service slaughter (which isn’t a term AFAIK) than denial of service (since denial isn’t the goal). It’s a tough problem though. In an ideal world, I think scrapers should pay for the compute/resources required to serve t

They are probably trying to normalize them a bit so when you install iOS apps on your desktop they blend in.

A customer is an external stakeholder. They do have a voice, but at a large scale / low % of revenue, it may be not be very loud. If no one enjoyed the shade of a tree, it wouldn’t cease to exist. If customers stopped paying a business

The open source tools I’ve seen aren’t great unfortunately. An alternative to sketchup is Fusion 360. Autodesk has a free hobbyist license.

GoDaddy has great support. It’s available via phone and you don’t need to be on some enterprise plan to get it. (Disclaimer: I work there)

I don’t necessarily disagree, but it’s probably a lot easier to come up with unique project names. So many names are taken in package registries or the community in general. Also in this project, if they didn’t say it was called “ketchup”,

I can see the line of thinking since it’s how command-tab works, but it’s just not a good fit for spaces/desktops. Similar to using multiple monitors, users expect to be able to rely on spatial reference. I didn’t use the feature eithe

I completely agree that training and culture are an important piece of this. If someone pings someone every time they have a question, without searching for the answer on their own, it doesn’t matter what the medium is. It’s wasteful.

Sure, it's still an interruption, but I don't think it's completely derailing. That's why I compared it to stopping by someone's desk. It still requires both parties to be responsible and aware.

I think this is a cultural issue. You could say the same about JIRA. I've been on teams that have used it to closely track developer productivity and micromanage. In contrast, I've been on healthier teams that just use it how it w

We use Pragli, and I feel like it's the opposite. Rather than a Slack back and forth to see if someone is available, setting up a video conference, connecting, etc, you can pop in and say "hey, you have a minute?". They can s

I imagine the reason it’s viewed as significant news to share is that they specifically acquired docker’s enterprise business. It’s not just another new KaaS offering in that sense.

I'm not sure how I haven't seen these before. Those apps look great! I've tried sketch, but it just feels too far from the adobe world I'm used to, especially for raster graphics work.

Maybe the intent of the writer was to make the new hires feel welcome aboard to their new company. That's also not mutually exclusive of the emotive intent you are describing. What makes that Orwellian though?

There's more to docker than Docker Hub, but I'm not sure what % of their revenue is from Docker Hub. Even if GitHub "wins" there will still be a lot on Docker Hub. Also, it's already possible to use other registries
