Is the internet today better than it's ever been? I can easily imagine LLMs becoming ad-riden, propagandized, cloudlfare intermediated, enshittified crap the way most of the internet has.

I agree with the substance, but would argue the author fails to "understand how AI works" in an important way: LLMs are impressive probability gadgets that have been fed nearly the entire internet, and produce writing not by t

I probably agree with much of the article, but I find this kind of statement really weird: we should pursue approaches to intelligence that treat embodiment and interaction with the environment as primary So pursue it. What does argu

AC is a sinusoid at 60/50 Hz. In principle, adding a DC current is just an offset, so e.g. if you had 1 Amp of AC current it would look like a sine wave 1 Amp high (actually sqrt(2)=1.414 high using the usual convention but that'

I am conscious, I can act as a nand gate. If you set up a billion people and had them act as a computer (was that in 3 Body Problem?) it would not be conscious of what it was doing.

I've read a (untestable) theory that consciousness is a property of matter, so everything has it, and we're just sort of the sum of the desires and feelings of our constituent matter. In that construct, a computer program would ne

I think the burden of proof is on showing that they are. Since we have no idea what consciousness is or how it works, I don't see how we could assume it clearly follows from anything.

When I read comments like this (and I've read seemingly hundreds of them), I wonder if some other people aren't conscious / sentient? I don't know how anyone who experiences consciousness (as I experience it) could think

I can't tell if your comment is intentionally ironic, as in you're saying we need to enforce your view on others that enforcing their view on others is bad. If this person was vandalizing cultural treasures or something to pressur

Curious to know if this extends to LLMs and if so how they would define open source. Specifically it would be nice to see repudiation of Meta's "Open" BS by a nation state.

I agree with this, it's actually a good reminder not to trust a preprint server. Arxiv already has an inappropriate air of validity, moderation will only make it worse. (Incidentally, I don't think misplaced trust in preprints is
