Blindly replicating what Google is doing is really problematic, I saw something similar at a few companies. The principles are interesting, but they have to consider each company's reality. Google is putting a lot of marketing money on

Really cool! Interesting to hear that. I thought about diving deep on details, but was concerned it would become too heavy for a blog post to read every week. Will experiment on that.

Really interesting, great feedback, thanks! This is the first issue, so this is very welcome to make sure the following are better. My goal is to actually make it for the a diverse set of companies, this is only the first one. Noted on the

I have a very similar view. But I see more and more companies trying to build a Google-like SRE structure, where the team actually operates more mature services highly critical to the business. Tricky not to become traditional ops teams, bu

Interesting take. I think Datomic is a low hanging fruit. A lot of people get excited about it and is fairly easy to do. That being said, I saw quite a few examples of companies migrating from it. Complexity to operate for simple things bei

Wow, this is very interesting! Will look into it, I have plans to add interests to Sequence at some point, this will be of great help.

Thanks! I have interesting ideas for amortization/interests, maybe they can get added at some point. Yes, the hashes are the ids used for Avoiding double-spending along with dynamodb conditional put. I’m on the phone now, will follow u

You're right. Sequence is a ledger API. These tools will give you higher abstractions on top of their internal ledgers. I think you are on the right track. If you want something extremely simple maybe the Ledger CLI [0] is worth lookin

It was designed to support multiple DBs. Adding a new adapter should be pretty easy. I will add the first for Datomic in the coming weeks. This should pave the way for the next ones (I will add some docs on this). I really believe on it sup

You're right. DynamoDB is not a relational database. But data in DynamoDB can be relational just as in a regular relational database: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/amazondynamodb/latest/developerg...

Interesting question. No-SQL doesn't mean non-relational. DynamoDB is a relational database. It's up to you on how you design the table to accommodate your relations. This is a great presentation about this: https://you

It maintains double-entry consistency of balances with DynamoDB. I uses DynamoDB (or any No-SQL) conditional puts. You can think of it as a update + where of SQL databases. But infinitely more scalable and available. Here is a piece I wrote

Wow, that was a great review, thanks! I agree with most points. There are definitely improvements to be made. This is the first version, I wanted to get it out and start getting feedback sooner. This is my take on each point: For some reaso

Hi everyone, I have been iterating a startup since the start of the year. And I'm using Clojure for everything I do. The first product was a ledger service, but it ended up not fitting well as a managed service. We pivoted to a differe

I think it's crazy that database updates are still acceptable in the design of systems and databases. Updates are deletes in practice, you lose what was there before. Getting to know how Git and blockchains in general works will help i

Completely agree. These problems should not happen twice, and if they are frequent there is a problem somewhere else. But as you mention, even with the best validations, it can happen sometimes. What processes/tools have you seen work

I prefer 1000x a complex pricing page than having to talk to a sales rep to get the first sense of pricing. Each industry has different aspects of how much value they get from a product, the effort to try to encapsulate these aspects into a

Agreed! I really appreciate Algolia trying to make it simple and transparent. It’s a way better experience than having to talk to a sales rep to get a sense of pricing after 3 calls. We face the same challenge with Decimlas.app, and will be
