Bah, instead of running my own app instance, do you mind if I make a Chrome extension on top of it, and you can push the code you like back into the running version? Meta-question: if a Chrome extension uses significant server-side resource

Auto-pull, auto-push, etc. Also, to my phone. When I take a picture on my phone, I want it to sync to a dropbox folder. Also, with facebook. I want each of my picture galleries to sync with a mock (and, optionally, to a dropbox). Let's say

Fucking brilliant! I'd love to hack on this... are you using app engine? Is it open source? In particular, you know what would make this rock*10^6? facebook/dropbox integration.

America's politicians, willingly or not, often seem like they’re actors in scripts created by cable producers. But that's what they are to most people. Literally. Most people's only perception of politicians is one as disobedient actors

It's interesting to realize that one could be holding a phone and using a fraction of its computational capacity because the two companies that collaborated on creating it... don't talk enough?

I think it's more a matter of funding, which a GPU manufacturer provided. That this was shown to a crowd of what looks like high schoolers, that's a bit morally dubious, in my opinion.

To make it a little less meta, one thing to keep in mind is that most people who use Google don't touch-type, so this is really intended for them to have a "oh, it knew what I wanted before I typed it" moment. Because there really was such

I think this proves that complaining about stuff like this is well worth the effort, assuming that that - and not some backroom pressure - is what caused them to back off. They mention it in their release so I figure it must have been a ma

Well, it wasn't really 10-fold. Also, it didn't just mean buying more servers, as maybe most of the work was done in software: this is another feature made possible by the recent Caffeine expansion: http://mashable.com/2010/06/08/google-ro

Good point about Steam. It really does suck balls compared even to the vast majority of web apps. Ditto for iTunes: slow as balls sometimes, but I still use it to buy music sometimes. Still, a competing product will win both over if it can

Either (a) there were legal changes in Apple's contracts with the record labels, or (b) they might get be sued for enabling this feature.

yes, 500ms can seem like an awful lot when you come from a world of 250ms. but if the results returned from the 500ms are significantly better, you bet your ass users will sit through double the time to get better, more reliable results.

Most of Google's users don't know how to touch type. For hunt-and-peck folk, this is a huge time-saver.

It's not that surprising. Maps that refreshed the page when you needed to move X miles south got tons of ad revenue, and JavaScript was still considered a "simple scripting language" by most.
