I'll boil it down to one sentence: It's really hard to apply YAGNI and actually build an MVP. I never quite understood YAGNI, because it seems illogical to always take that stance. Sometimes, you're gunna need it. Say YAGNI to everything,

Just because the "programmer productivity" problem isn't one related to Computer Science doesn't mean society can't benefit from solving it... I find most people aren't all that interested in Computer Science, but rather in getting things

That's silly. Many laws are meant to minimize people harming each other. For example, the point of laws that control whether a child may bring a dagger to school is for the safety of minors, who don't have the neurobiological facilities to

On some level it makes me feel better about handing over personal data when the company doesn't act asshole-ish. As well meaning as all of the employees at Google are, and as far as they'll go to do the right thing (far, in my experience)

Honestly, the way I think it'll play out, at least at first, is that now Hulu and YouTube and NetFlix will be able to guarantee the content owners that they can broadcast it uninterrupted by buffering problems (to the households that subscr

I think the interaction between ideas is a little more intricate than that. For example, holding some ideas in high regard makes you more susceptible to other ideas and immune to others. The most infectious kind of idea is one transmitted t

Think of it as a self-organizing social p2p protocol. Do the right thing. If you feel it's ruining your life, you should probably go hang out with a different crowd.
