I pay $15 / year for no-ip (they're a reseller) because they have good service. I'm glad to pay the difference. Of course, one way they get away with a higher price is that they primarily sell DNS services. So it may be more expensive to pa

My take on it. We're programmers, and when I code I could give fuck-all as to how I look. And I say this as a person who enjoys dressing up and buying nice clothes. Wearing t-shirts is just one less level of bullshit, and it's cheaper as we

TFA seems to think wearing t-shirts helps you keep the man down which is weird. I'm not so sure I'm fighting the power while working in my my nice office in a good part of town in an engineering job. The fact that this guy works at linked i

For color correction you cannot do better than this book: http://www.amazon.com/Professional-Photoshop-Classic-Guide-C... It's a great book for engineers working with color, as its principles are explained through color theory and the ma

Well, since it uses 'Enlightenment' as a WM it makes sense. I'll tell you what, as an Atheist, if any Christians want to name their next bible reading app Secular Humanism v3.0 it'll be fine with me.

The fact that it's 2011 and only just now is MacRuby moving to git is a good reminder that getting stuff done doesn't require all the new shiny tools, and other bleeding edge accouterments. Edit: my point was that sometimes keeping your fo

redis-rb maps redis commands into the ruby namespace. redis-objects is built on top of redis-rb and creates objects that are backed by redis, with operations like push, pop, etc. cleanly mapped. In other words, it's a more ruby-like API. I

True. However, for some cases where you don't mind losing some data due to a recovery process EBS snapshots are 'good enough'. Additionally, with a database like CouchDB with a 'crash only' design, it should work for some cases as well.

One other huge downside of raiding EBS volumes is you can't use EBS's snapshotting features as you cannot guarantee a perfect sync (you could use LVM yourself however). Honestly, since EBS vols are supposedly not tied to a single disk, the

I'm glad Zope lost, and that has nothing to do with Python. Zope was just a morass of over-complication. I remember buying the zope book sometime in the early 00s. I was initially impressed with the completeness, but found it to be overly-
