I love kbp, it's got such a simple mental model, and there's less room for outdated backlogs. It kinda makes those untenable.

I'm wondering if this has the refs, agents, and atoms that make concurrent clojure so awesome. If not, it would feel.... strange.

The hoax itself didn't undermine it all. You could reasonably make the case that it Social Text was simply lazy and just published shit w/o reading it. Reading about the hoax, however, is a good way to introduce people to what PoMo theory i

Well, keyword arguments can be used well in ruby, though clearly, in the code you've been dealing with they haven't. Some guidelines. Use .merge for default values, not ternary operators. Keep it minimal. Rails does a good job of using keyw

Well, as great as being polite, articulate, and compassionate is, those attributes don't (necessarily) add up to cool in school. I don't think that's something parents can really teach.

High school rewards people who socialize well, it doesn't punish kids for loving science. If you socialize well, you can 'get away' with being a CS major, hell, you can even make it cool. It just so happens plenty of nerds don't socialize

It is very hard to push your skills forward without side projects. Do accountants balance ledgers in their spare time? No. But good ones do read up on their craft and push their knowledge forward off the clock. It just so happens that pushi

Please. I've been writing rails apps professionally since 1.2. My observations: 1. jQuery quickly replaced prototype for most projects via the jrails gem. This just reflects the underlying reality. 2. Coffeescript as the default was a bad i

Its hard to trust a humorless judgement of humor. While I haven't played the game myself, I'd like to point out to the author of the article that if attempting to describe why a something isn't funny, the best weapon in your arsenal would b
